My Boring R53

Hello, After years of having VW's I finally got a Mini. I've been on the hunt for a little over a year and found it. In the first week of ownership I've amassed a collection of parts from new front suspension, Valeo single mass flywheel clutch kit, headgasket kit, tensioner and idler pulley, wheel bearings, mint drivers seat, 2 good HK amps, Depo Ecode headlights and Enkei RPF1's. So I have my work cut out for me. I have quite an oil leak, hence the gasket kit. Drivers seat is total garbage. HK amp was dead. Suspension is shot. On the plus side it's got some awesome options. OE Driving Lights, Roof rack with luggage basket and JCW gauges under the switches. Pics to come.

Welcome to NAM.

On your oil leak, have you verified your crank sensor o-ring is not the culprit? Another oil leaker is the oil filter housing. A headgasket kit is more oil in water or water in oil issue than oil running down the side of the motor.

mdaz75, thanks

r53coop, the reason for the headgasket set is so I can install the ARP head studs. The oil is EVERYWHERE lol it completly covers the AC compressor, Alt, PS rack and little fan. I was worried about the fan so I cleaned as much as I could.

Hi and welcome to the NAM family!
Go to the BMW Vin decoder site and download the option list your car came with. You will need to add the last 6 or 7 VIN numbers.

Getting the one ball mod.
ECS tips done with the one ball mod. These had to be modified to work, new larger pipe from the muffler and bent just so these would fit and be center. They are the 3" tip incase anyone was wondering.

Installed R55 cloth and leather chocolate seats. Even the heated seats work.

Servicing the supercharger and trying to find my oil leak. It's driving me nuts.
Installed depo smoked side markers. I think the stock ones take away from the arches, these just blend right in. Also installed was orange and red leds into them. So I stay legal. Lol
Also installed the depo ecode headlights I got from ECS. Many thanks to those guys and this forum!!!

Great Pics!
I like the chocolate seats!
Exhaust tips look nice and beefy!
While you have the SC off, replace the crank position sensor o-ring!

Thanks!
While I had the SC off I did replace the crank position oring which was blue and nice and round. On further inspection the position sensor is new and the newest number from mini. So it's factory. I also changed the dipstick tube oring. It almost appears the the oil is coming from the lower half of the block. I don't know what to call it. Maybe the crankshaft cradle... If you look closely at the engine you can see the wetness. Has anyone seen this before.

These are known to seep oil from the oil pan gasket, so either tighten, or replace the gasket may be required. As long as i is not dumping oil on the ground, it may be ok the way it is.
The other place it can come from is the front crank seal. Not hard to replace, but requires removing the vibration dampener, which is some thing that goes wrong with these cars. The factory vibration dampener rubber drys and falls apart. About 100% failure on originals. If you do replace the dampener, get a quality aftermarket one.

Replaced the vibration dampener and crankseal, Oil pan gasket, oil cooler seals and valve cover gasket. That definitely helped. But now the rear main seal is leaking. So I guess its time to install the Valeo single mass clutch kit. I installed some lowering springs and now I have to fix the sway bar end links hitting the axles. The sway bar end links are Meyle HD's. I thought that the axles needed to be replaced because of a vibration but now I'm thinking I need to fix this first. Its like this on both sides.
