Buying an 05 MCS
Buying an 05 MCS
Hey guys, I am picking up a 2005 Mini Cooper S 6 speed. It has a CEL for a lean condition in the first and second bank, I think this means I need to get some new 02 sensors.
Also, the Air bag light is on, I am assuming that the recall hasn't been done though.
Does anyone have any experience with these issues?
I am pretty pumped about the car. It looks great for having 121k miles and everything is in great shape. Aside from the CEL and the Airbag light, this should be a pretty fun and reliable car I would think.

Welcome to NAM! I would possible recommend getting a PPI on the Mini before you purchase it. Just so you know what you're in for. Otherwise, we have a great resource of DIY tech articles here if you need any assistance with your new to you Mini. Good luck and make sure to post up pictures when you purchase it!

First, congrats on your purchase! A lean code in both sensors would likely indicate that you have a leak somewhere. take it to a qualified MINI mechanic and have them check for intake and exhaust leaks before you buy two (expensive) O2 sensors.

Most likely there. Post up codes. Also you will notice the gas mileage starts to drop , same O2 front the front and back.

1/2005+ production has the pass airbag light issues which MINI will cover if its the OCC sensor.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I appreciate it. I finally got it registered today and was whipping around MA today with the car. She isn't perfect, but I got a lot of fun for $4500.
Thanks for the links ECS! Is there a pulling device for these or do they just easily pop out?

Congrats. Have the check engine light diagnosis done as it may not be the oxygen sensors and could be something as simple as a leak. Or maybe just one sensor, but spend some money on diag could save you a lot.
If the airbag light is the pass seat mat that would be great with the bulletin getting MINI to cover it, and maybe why you got a good deal.

Use a 22mm box wrench. Unplug the wiring connector and run the box end up the wire to the sensor.

Standard ) oxygen sensor tool , like like this socket as it does not hurt . bent the wire when you install. Also works on other standard size o2 sensors.

I think I did, he wasn't happy with the deal, but he never told me about the CEL or the Airbag so I figured I could work the deal down some more because that meant more work, time and money for me to put into the car than originally planned.
We had it hooked up to an OBDII reader and that was the code we were getting I believe. I will swing by AutoZone tomorrow and have it rechecked. I have to pass the Mass safety inspection by Tuesday and of course work could not be any more busy right now. I even have to go in on Saturday to do a physical inventory.
Thanks for the tip! I have one of those!
Thanks ECS! You've been a great help. I will be buying some stuff from you guys soon!

Welcome, the plug snaps in and out on the terminal side. The head ( threads) of the senor if original can really stick to the old exhaust might take some PB blaster soaking to get off.

You are welcome. Thanks
Sounds like you got a deal on that MCS. I seen some that cheap , but had major issues.
Good luck. Now if you found a JCW kit also.
