Dallas Newbie

Just got my '12 Cooper S with 29k miles last week and am loving it so far. It was CPO and came with the Maintenance Package (hopefully my only expenses for a few years will be tires!). I had a couple Camaros growing up (still have my '95 Z28 6-spd) and the last few years was in a F150 4x4. I needed something fun again and have always heard these were a hoot to drive. So here I am!

One question: What do the factory JCW options for the MCS include? I'm curious if my JCW stuff were after purchase add ons. Mine has the JCW aero kit and wheels, Chili Red mirror caps (but body color roof), JCW door sills, the steering wheel, e-brake and shifter boots have red stitching and the shift **** is black/red. Neither the steering wheel nor the body kit have the JCW badges though. Would these normally be included?

Already looking at mods, like a factory bluetooth retrofit and blacked out trim! Here's looking to years of fun motoring!

Kyle

Welcome to the world of MINI! Just got back from racing near Dallas. I didn't think they sold anything but trucks in Texas. That is one gorgeous car. I love the color scheme. You can run your VIN somewhere in the Forums to find out what it came with. It should have JCW badging unless someone took them off.

Picture of the engine? That will tell you if it has the dealer install performance kit. Side scuttles (side gizmos on the a panels), door sill plates, steering wheel, carbonfiber trim pieces, etc, could be add ons.

Basically, anything you can match up here could be something added on.

I'll try to get a pic of the engine here in a bit. The VIN lookup was a great tip! I figured out that all my JCW stuff was factory. You say the badging should be there though? I don't have a front badge and my rear is the standard "Cooper S". If it's just the add on JCW options, does the JCW badging belong??

It sounds like you have an R56 Cooper S with the JCW aero kit and JCW interior. However, your brakes look like the JCW brakes for 16 inch and smaller rims. A factory JCW wouldn't come with Cooper S side scuttles. If it has the JCW badge on the engine cover then its the real deal for some reason. If it has a small plaque on it saying an Id, then it just has the tuning kit. Is it an automatic or manual?

Oh my bad! I know it's an S. I was more curious if the JCW bits were from the factory or were they added by the original owner after purchasing.

It looks like I have factory JCW options added to my S but I'm not supposed to have badging.

Correct. The factory JCW's have the badge in a different place than where the tuning kit says to place the badge. I believe its upper grill for the factory and lower grill for the tuning kit. However, if you have neither, then I don't think it has any JCW badging on the exterior.

Congrats, looks like a Cooper S with the exterior JCW package and then they add ed some JCW bits , and painted the calipers red.

Looks very clean.
