New to the MINI World, NC based!

Hello all!

My name is Jason. I am new to the BMW/MINI world. I have grown up around cars all my life and have had two show cars. I am known more for my VW's (aircooled) and Toyota/Scions. I can say that I know a lot about those types of cars but nothing BMW based. A little about me. My current DD is a 2012 Toyota Tacoma, and this new toy will be my scoot around town/ weekend driver. On to the Cooper.

I just purchased a new to me (as of yessterday) 2005 Cooper S. From what I can tell the previous two owners have kept fairly decent care of this car. As of now I love it, and have nothing to really complain about. Details about the car......

Mods

AutoMeter Boost Gauge
Glowshift Oil Temp Gauge
Borla Cat-Back Exhaust
D1-Spec Aluminum Oil Catch Can
DDMWorks Cold Air Intake
Craven Speed 17% Pulley
Adjustable Short-Throw Shifter
Custom Rear Seat Delete
3000k Fog Lights & LED Parking Lights
LED Interior & License Plate Lights
Aero Grill Kit
WMW Ignition Package

Maintenance

PowerFlex Upper and Lower Engine Mounts
PowerFlex Control Arm Bushings
PowerFlex Supercharger Dampeners
New Coolant Tank
New OEM Radiator Fan
New Thermostat and Housing
New OEM Waterpump
New OEM Power Steering Fan
Supercharger Re-oiled

I believe about 90% of this was completed due that the two previous owners kept all the old parts, and gave them to me upon purchase. I also received some new parts as well that I will finish installing. The roof, mirrors, and wheels have all been plasti dipped as well (normally white). Not the best but it will work for now. I will eventually either wrap or paint the roof, and mirrors. Possibly get some new wheels later on.

I did notice today on the way home from work that I was feeling heat come from the shift boot area. What could be the cause of this? Also how can you tell if the clutch needs to be replaced? I am not sure if the previous two owners did this at all.

On to the pictures:

Welcome and Congrats. Looks like it may have been one of our customers as we sell most those parts you have listed. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks guys! I already enjoy the car so much, just hoping I don't come across in big issues.

Welcome to the MINIacs!

Great looking car.

Heat coming up the shifter... I bet it is due to the custom exhaust, heat coming from the CAT... but just a guess.

Charlotte...ah yea... I spent way to many nights at Kidnappers and The Double Door...
Link up with the local MINI group, they find great roads to explore with MINIs, like running up to Bat Cave and Lake Lure...

Motor on!

JaBowders,

Is there not a heat shield of some sort to keep this from happening?

I have never been to either one of those places, but I have heard plenty about them. I do plan on finding a local MINI group to hang out with.

Thanks for all the help!

Welcome to the MINI World

Welcome! Great looking MINI. You did well in finding such a nice Generation 1 car. You will have fun with this car.

Thanks much for the photos. We like pictures and seeing all the different MINIs.

North Carolina is the perfect place to own a MINI. So many twisty roads to enjoy the great handling.

You should join the Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club. They have many events and good camaraderie. We would be on their Ice Cream Run this summer but for a schedule conflict. Will join them for the Sleeping Dragon in October.

Thanks Green!

I actually joined them after I joined this site. I would love to do all the curvy roads and long drives with this car with the group over at Tar Heel Mini, but until I know its a good driving and handling car I will hold off for a bit. I have a few things I will be doing to it soon to get it worthy of all the Mountain roads around here. First on my list is a full detail inside and out!
