Finally purchased my first Mini two weeks ago. 2006 MCS, 61000 miles. Am 3rd owner, and going thru car changing fluids, serpentine belt etc. got a killer deal from middle age grandma, $7400. I am a master mechanic, so first order of business was to purchase some tools and get to work. Of note, found a belt tensioner tool for $21.00 with free shipping. Tool works great, only drawback was handle coating is heat shrink tubing, but who really cares. Installing XM portable docking station tonite. So far all I can say is awesome. Was going to buy a Volvo C30 after two hot rodded XC70's, but am completely happy with the choice. If anyone wants source for belt tool found on ebay from Goldpart.
Welcome to NAM! Sounds like you have a good start. Post some photos for us to see. I had several Volvos in the past. The "funnest" one was my C70, fun car but nowhere near the MINI experience.
Car is immaculate, few minor rock chips up forward. Service records for last owner show regular maintenance, brake pads new, tires nearly new, power steering pump replaced. Typical situation in this economy, worker laid off for more than a year, car or house. I showed up with 74 Franklins, 2 grand under asking and it was a done deal. Plan on running as a commuter car, will do the 15 under charger pulley in the spring along new tensioner. Live in Ohio currently, but being transferred back to San Francisco in the spring. Car will be garaged when the snow flies, but can't wait to roll on the PCH out west.
