Possible new Mini Owner

Hey all,

I might be joining the ranks real soon. Looking to pick up a used Mini S for my daily driver, so I don't have to daily my toy.

Any suggestions on what to avoid, such as model year, etc are welcomed.

Currently looking at a 2011 Mini S. Since this will be my daily commuter it will likely be an auto trans, but I've heard a about them grenading, is that isolated to a specific year?

Never heard anything about auto trans. Now the manuals go through clutches like camaros do brake pads.

Interesting.

I just spoke to a close friend about my interest in a Mini and he cautioned me about reliability of a Mini in general. I didn't think they were known for being unreliable?

they changed motors in 2011 to the N18 , so far it's been better. But it's a turbo and sometimes perf cost $$ , maint can be high but I bought my used and new mini with factory warranties 4/50 and free maint for 3/36.

Just got back from a test drive on a used 2011 Mini S. Nice little car, going back after work to discuss what my options are. Only thing is it only has one and a half years remaining on factory warranty. So we will see what I can do.

if it still has factory warranty you can buy extended coverage from dealer, not cheap but 1 1/2 yrs is enough time to fix anything that is wrong, how many miles on it ?

good mileage, FYI I paid $17K out the door for same car but it was a CPO from
dealer and got the 100K 6yr coverage with it. So I feel more secure about it
being used. Get your self a JB+ , adds about 30hp , let's the boost go from factory 15# to up to 19# . Easy add on and since we got 93 OCT here a safe
add on.

FYI I gave my son my 95 Trans AM so I know where you are coming from. But I found when I have the
need for real power and speed now I get on 2 wheels with my triumph street triple R which actualy
gets about the same mpg as my car.

Jesus dude that's a hell of a deal.

KBB puts the value of this one at a little over 19.1k, that assumes excellent condition. From what I can tell the condition is pretty good, three small dings in the door that scuffed the paint though. Dealer Asking 19k. So perhaps a little wiggle room.

But goodness 17k for a CPO, maybe I need to keep looking. I would sure take that over the brand new 2013 Sonic I can snag for 16k out the door.

Any idea on the cost to extend the warranty? Are we talking several thousand?

Ya the last time I was at my dealer Arlington Mini they did not have any, I just
got lucky , I bought the CPO 2 weeks after my new MINI, liked it so much we traded the wifes old 2001 Miata in for it, they had it marked at 19K but got it
for alot less, like $16,500 then taxes etc was about $17k out the door and they gave me 1.9% APR , got 0.9% APR on my new MINI , can't beat those interest rates.

I appreciate the response, gives me an idea of what I can work with. We'll see what comes of this.

Convinced the dealer to certify the Mini S at no extra cost to myself so I can get the extra warranty. Should be closing on the car Thursday!
