Paralel Parking

Hi guys, where I live, parallel parking occurs 99% of the times. I have a automatic 2008 Mini Cooper S and I cant figure how to park the car and put the gear in NEUTRAL. Any ideas?

What transmission do you have? If it is a stick you leave it in the middle, between gears, that is neutral. In an automatic you would want park, but neutral is pretty easy to find. Mor info about you car would be helpful.. If you could please fill out your info and/or a signature.

Thanks man. The car has an automatic gear box with 6 gears, its a 2008 turbo copper s. The problem is that when I put in Neutral I cannot remove the keys.

Cool vague explanation.

"Hey guise, I have a 6 speed cooper S 6 and I'm trying to find where park is"

When asked a logical reason as to why is answered with, "because I need to." Priceless.

Hi, I am sorry I did not make my self clear. When I posted my question I meant that I need to leave the car in neutral during parallel parking. Thats the rule in my garage. Thanks for your observation.

?????? I don't understand why they would want you to leave it in neutral. That is a safety issue. The car can roll away.

Thanks for your answer but this is not the point. I need to park the car in neutral, is there or not a way to do it without leaving the keys in the ignition?

Yes, thanks!!! The garage is very little and the cars must park loose so people can push it back and forward using their hands.

I think you are out of luck......most modern cars are made to PREVENT you from putting the car in N when parked....to prevent it from rolling away...that is WHY the key is stuck...

On some cars with an auto, the lock feature can be defeated...maybe a local shop/old school mechanic knows how to break your car for you...kind of an odd request, but must be more common in some part of the world...like RIO....

One tip...many makes have a little plug on the shift lever pedestal... Look in the vid...
Removing this plug let's you bypass part of the "interlock" system if it malfunctions....but not sure on a mini.

Edit...
Lol...just watched the vid..lol...guess I just told you what is said!! ..

Yep I would hate to park there too!.....but...
  • Get 2 stickers one that says P and one that says N.
  • Put the P sticker over the N on your gear shift mount
  • Put the N over the P on your gear shift mount.
  • If anyone tries to push it and the car doesn't move just tell them "yep its a pretty solid car, heavy and well built, it doesn't move very easily!"

When we have to park on the street and if you do not leave it loose there's a risk to get your bumper scratched or broken. I have also a BMW 1994 M3 E36 Euro version that accepts to remove the keys in neutral position, that's why I thought the Mini could have the same feature. Thanks a lot for your help.
