Windshield Replacement for Countryman S question
Windshield Replacement for Countryman S question
Wanted opinions from some here who have had their windshields replaced.
I have a 2013 Countryman S that has been in my posession a grand total of 6 days. Car in front of me threw a rock up and hit my windsheild, right in the line of sight, so it is a danger and a ticketable offence. It caused a bubble all the way through.
I called my dealer, Crevier Mini, and they quoted me $1,698.00.
My insurance company, State Farm, said Crevier wasn't in their network, and when they called, Crevier apparently either refused to budge or didn't budge much. The insurance company got 2 quotes from 2 local glass replacement companies that would use the factory glass (not an off brand), which is $431. The total charge would be in the $770 range. That is all State Farm is willing to pay, and honestly, I see their point. I get factory glass, but why pay for just anyone's labor?
So, anyone have anything positive or negative about having a 3rd party do it? What have been some of your experiences?
To their credit, State Farm is cutting the check today for the $770 minus the deductible, so it is up to me now to fix it as I see fit, which is either paying $1,000 additional out of pocket to have the dealer do it, or going with one of the third parties they gave me. I am leaning towards checking out reviews of these two third parties and going with one of them, but not fully decided.
I haven't had a windshield chip in 15 years. And nooooo, couldn't have got it last week with my old car.

I don't know how it is in your neck of the woods, but around here, dealers dont change windshield themselves. They will call Mr-Glass-Around-The-Corner to do it as a sub.
So just cut the middleman, avoid the additionnal cost and go directly to the installer

EHans, that really sucks, sorry :(.
The dealer doesn't replace your glass. They contract it out. Probably to one of the shops State Farm recommends. Trust me, given the price difference, even if Crevier did their own installs, the other shops would have more practice!!!

Thanks all. I'll go that direction. In talking with Crevier, they do it. It is a 2 day process. day 1 they install. Then let it cure over night, then inspect day 2.
Sounds a bit exorbitant to me. If this is what maintenance will be like then 1) I am glad I purchased the extended maint. contract and 2) I'll find an independent shop the first day my warranty expires.

Agreed. I've had a few windshields replaced in previous vehicles I've owned (VW's) and I think the most expensive from the dealership was $610.00. They order the part and have a local windshield replacement company do the work on site. $1698.00 is a joke.

When my wife picked up her Mini, (about three years ago), on our way home, a SUV passed us on the left, and then proceeded to pick up and throw a rock at the windshield that resulted in enough damage that the windshield had to be replaced. Not even 200 miles on the odometer. The cost of replacing the windshield was closer to $600. And I am talking about a Mini windshield with the integrated sensors in it. Not just a regular windshield. I agree… $1698 sounds way excessive. I would call other dealers.

well, the good news is I took it to a glass place recommended by State Farm for this area and he said it could be patched for $70-$80. I might see 2-3 really tiny nicks in but it wouldn't be as bad as it is right now, and the bubbled area would be invisible he said. Honestly, I'd rather have that than have the entire thing taken out for $800 they'd charge to replace, with a genuine Mini windshield actually purchased from my dealer.
The $1,700 is beyond absurd.
Appointment at 8am tomorrow, so I'll know then if the $70 repair option is a good deal.
And to think I wasted 30min on Sunday rain-x-ing the windows and headlights.

I got it fixed this morning. They did a good job. It looks like a small smudge that 99% of people won't notice. Honestly, for everything that can go wrong with a windshield being replaced, I feel better about my new smudge than I would have having the whole thing replaced.
So, car has its first blemish. Now I can quit freaking out about it being perfect and enjoy her that much more!
My windshield is chipped by a rock last night while driving , from where i should repair windshield any suggestions.
