Greetings all! Been a MINI owner for all of two days now. I picked up a 2012 MCS. Just curious as to "secrets" and hidden things. Tips, tricks, advice, etc. Somebody on a different forum mentioned something about hacking the key fob? What is that about?
Anyway, anything you guys want to share, I am all ears. I am SUPER excited about learning about this car. She is already my pride and joy.
ALSO! I am in San Diego and would definitely love to meet up with other owners for some drives!

Well, Eddie, I didn't know how much I could love a car. I didn't know that adding the 'third brake pulsar' would be the best, cheapest, most effective modification I could make, that would keep people from tailgating me. I read the owners manual about five times, because it isn't always very easy to understand...
Check your oil levels, get in the habit of doing it once a week or once a month. Seriously, that's really crucial. If you have trouble reading the dipstick, look for threads about it and see what you can do to help yourself, because it really is important to keep your level up. Change your oil more often than the factory recommends, but if you keep the level up, you'll do your MINI a great favor!
And check the SCMM forum(So Cal MINI Maniacs) for meeting places and fun events. Our next breakfast is this coming Saturday, at the Corner Bakery in Mission Valley, pm me if you want details. Just a breakfast this time, no runs, social and relaxed. Lots of events for Minis/MINIs in our club!
You're going to have a GREAT time with your car!

Great cars, you'll have a blast. Welcome aboard!
This thread captures a lot of the "subtle" features of our cars, a "things you didn't know" set of posts:

which I found really helpful.

Totally agree. my sister-in-law said, "its so cute... in a completely manly way of course". lol most fun I've ever had driving. My wife has said I've become a parking snob... I drop her and our daughter at the door and then go find a spot near a curb or at least far away from other dinged up cars. Came out of the mall this past weekend and there were 2 other minis parked with mine. wish I'd taken a picture though!

I wish I'd known three things:
1) what a big difference it makes switching from runflat to "regular" tires
2) how addicting the modding bug is
3) that owning a MINI isn't like owning any other car. It's more of an all-consuming "experience" - from you-ification to driving, er, motoring, to routine care & maintenance - MINIs are just...different.
