Mini Hopeful

Hey everyone. New guy here from Wilmington, NC. Just started working out the specifics on hopefully getting 2 new Minis! An S hardtop for myself, and an S Countryman for the wife. She's getting the Countryman to haul around our 3 English Bulldogs! Hopefully everything will go well and we can strike up a deal. New to minis, but my wife and I are both car enthusiasts. She will be trading in her '08 BMW 328xi, and I'll be trading in my '11 Subaru WRX, again, if we can work out the deal. I look forward to learning and contributing to this site.

Best,

Joey

I just got my 2012 MCS Hardtop last week, and I love it so far. My wife loves it as well, and as long as ownership goes will for me over the next year or two, we'll be getting her a Countryman S. This is the first time in 5 years I've her her honestly talk about getting rid of her car (2000 Celica GT-S). As awesome as that old Toyota has been to us (only tires and oil changes since we bought it in 2007), it will be tough to see it go someday, but the Countryman's are awesome!

Good luck!

Thanks guys! It looks like she's gonna go with an MCS Hardtop, too. She finally saw the Countryman in person, and wasn't all that pleased with it. lol She's away on a business trip right now, I just need her to get home, and finalize her build so we can get both of them submitted to the dealer for building! Can't wait.

I wanted to post a quick update. The orders have been submitted, but when building mine, the configurator on Mini's site was a FAIL! It is not possible to have the Soda interior with the JCW package! I have no idea why, so I opted for the carbon black punch leather. :( Wonder if I should change it to the carbon black lounge leather, because I think I like the contrasting piping a bit more. Anyone know if the lounge leather will wear better than the punch? Something tells me that the perforations in the punch will cause it to look too stretched and worn, over time.

Think about clear bra protection. The front end of the MINI is a magnet for road debris.

Congrats on your purchases.

Hey bullie can I ask why you want to traded your 11 wrx for a mini? I was considering both the wrx and the mini . Let me know your reasons .

Thanks for asking! Many reasons. The WRX was an epic car for straight line performance, and standard features. In stock form it was a bit wallowy in the turns, and the nose liked to push in the corners. A fair amount of body roll, and not so great suspension, made it so-so.I loved the car for what it was, and tried not to dwell on what it wasn't. The sound of the Boxer engine is intoxicating though.

Aside from these points, my wife has been miserable with her 328xi. Hated the thing since about after the 1st mo. of ownership. She was really upside down on her car, and I was in a positive equity situation after only 19 mos. or so. It was easier to get her negative equity spread out over 2 leases, and keep our total monthly payments the same. On the financial front, our insurance went down about $400/yr. My gas mileage has almost doubled, based on my calculations so far. Financially it was a solid move for us.

Lastly, I am a "true" car guy! I hear that term thrown around way too much, and the person bragging it usually means they are a pre-1975 American made car enthusiast. This does not qualify one as being a "car guy", in my book. I honestly believe that every manufacturer currently making cars for sale in the US, has, at one point in their history, produced a car that every self-proclaimed "car guy", should have on his list of "must own" cars before the die! The WRX/STi can now be checked off of my list, and the MINI is another one of those iconic cars. 2 checked off of my list in a little over a year and a half!
