cvt transmission

Hello there folks, I'm new to this so be kind. I rebuild transmissions, been in the business since 1984, seen a lot of changes. I have a 2003 mini cooper with a cvt transmission in it. I have been told by my " tech." people that I shouldn't work on this unit. I have the unit apart on my bench, found that there was a bad bearing, and found one to replace it. Problem is I need to open up one of the pulleys in order to get the set up back into the case. I have done the saturn cvt and the nissan cvt, and know that you must use a tool for this. So far I have no one that can tell me anything about this tool or some other way of doing this. Any help that anyone can give on this would be greatly welcomed. I think that even tho this is not a good transmission some of us have got to learn how to repair it. So if anybody is working on this unit I would love to hear from you. Thanks

I forget where I saw it, but once I found the model number and manufacturor's name etc on the internet somewhere. The Mini cooper exclusivity on the M45 supercharger ends in 2012 and there may be something similar on the trans (I really don't know).

My point is perhaps contacting the factory that makes them may help with the tools and if they can't or won't help, perhaps they are contracted not to provide to anyone but mini for a set period of time.

One thing is certain though, if you can reliably fix these things, there is a market for them. Searching the forums will find others who have tried before and may be an IM will help too.

Good luck.

Another option is to make friends with some of the guys in your local dealer's service department. They may be able to at least tell you what the tool is, if not let you borrow it.
