New (used) mini owner

Hi! Just got my first mini cooper last night a used 2006 base model. Looking to hear from anyone with a similar car and their experiences with it. Also looking to customize it with some stripes and such, I live in Brooklyn, NY and would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks and hello!

Congrats! And welcome!

As a 2006 Base model your cars color should be "sunrise" if I have looked up the right information. If you do a search you should find a Sunrise Owners Club here on NAM. Owners typically post their pictures and it is a good place to go to see how others have performed meification on their cars to give you an idea of what you might want to do to yours. This way you can see what different color stripes look like on your car without having to buy them. You can also connect with other sunrise owners.

I've owned a Justacooper for several years and have found it to be a fun and economical ride. Did I mention FUN? It has been a reliable and dependable car; always gets looks and comments from others too. And it's FUN!

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome and the info! I will check out the sunrise club as well. So my mini only came with one key - seems to be a familiar story. The remote isn't working and I was curious about buying another key on e-bay. Has anyone had any luck with this?

I tried to find "sunrise" yellow and got nothing but I found mellow yellow and liquid yellow. I have no idea which one my car is as the pictures all look the same.

The only yellow colors I know of are Liquid Yellow (probably what yours is), Mellow Yellow and Interchange Yellow. Look under your hood on the passenger side strut tower- there will be a plate with the color listed. As for a key, don't get an eBay one. You will have difficulty cutting it and programming it. You might have gotten the remote key or the non remote key with your car- to get the other one go to the dealer. 10 keys are shipped with each car; two are sent with the car to the dealer and the other 8 are held in super secret storage in New Jersey. With proof of ownership you can have one ordered at the dealer; the non remote one for our '03 was about $50, the remote key is around $200. The '06 keys are different and the prices probably are too but this gives you a representative idea of the cost and difference between them.

Here is a site I found interesting when searching for color names:

I wasnt sure of the color and probably looked in the wrong place for the info. Obviously the site I looked at was wrong.

Here is a link to all the different "clubs".

Stripe installation?

I recently purchased 10 inch rally stripes for my LY06 cooper and wanted to know if anyone knew where in the Brooklyn area I could get them installed? I know I could do them myself but living in Brooklyn means no garage... What should I expect to spend on this? Thanks!!!!

Congrats and welcome! I asked my dealer about adding boot stripes for my MCS, and they told me it would only run about $105, basically under an hour of work. That's if I already bought the decals online. Also, it doesn't look all that complicated to DIY. I think there is a tutorial around here someplace...

Either way, your car will look great with rally stripes! What color did you go with?
