Hi Hexon,
I do lease now - I have my own business so get good deals from the manager of my business bank.
Back in the early days I bought them - the first change was obviously the upgrade to a Cooper S, which my other half desperately wanted. The change to the second first gen 'S' was simply because the residuals were good and we got 20,000 miles and a newer car for around £1500 - cheap motoring.
Another factor was that the really early cars were not great build quality - when they started getting it better the attraction of a car that didn't creak at low cost was too much!
