Insulted the MINI!

About 4 days ago I finally put my deposit down on an all Midnight Black 2011 JustaCooper that is on a boat headed for our shores . I have been waiting to get my finances in order for the past 2-3 months and it's finally happening. So I told my family about my exciting news. My cousin and my brother responded with, "ewewew, you like those MINI Coopers!" "They're so weird looking". I proceeded to set them straight pretty aggressively. I don't care what they think, I LOVE MINI'S!! They obviously have no idea what they're talking about.

Has anyone else experienced this?

When the car arrives...you should put them in it and let them enjoy some corners...

So what do they drive?
Tell them when they pay for for your car they can have an opinion.

There are some people that just don't "get" the MINI. It's beyond their understanding. The only way to turn them into converts is to get them behind the wheel on a nice curvy road. You have a whole MINI culture to stand behind you as well.

My parents didn't really understand why I bought a MINI when I had a perfectly good set of A to B wheels (Ford Ranger). Last weekend I got them behind the wheel at a local autocross and they had a blast! They get it now.

By the way, you can tell your family that you know someone with a "justacooper" (me) who totally put a Subaru STi away on the autocross course. Got the fastest time of the day!

A wise purchase indeed.

My sister is exactly the same way, she drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee and then there is me with my little MINI. I think her "disliking" for my MINI is out of jealousy I can't blame her.

Trust me, I will never let her forget about that. I fill my take with premium, she fills her's with regular, I still end up getting more miles and paying less.

Sorry to say, but most people don’t “get” MINIs or why we drive them. I’ve been asked how many clowns can fit in my car. Someone quite seriously asked me if you could drive a MINI on the interstate.

Remember you’ve getting a MINI for the right reason. It’s what you like. That’s what’s most important!

Definitely outta jealousy. Which makes owning a MINI all the sweeter!

Yes, jealousy might be the correct explanation for that kind of response. They may not be jealous that you're getting a MINI (they might prefer something else), but that you're getting the new car you wanted and they aren't.

An alternative explanation is that they just took the opportunity to rib you about something. In either case, they might have ribbed you about any new car you bought.

They drive ridiculous cars. My cousin drives a Toyota SUV and my bro drives a Nissan Pathfinder and they're making fun of my MINI! They are ridiculous family members. Gross! I hate the cars they drive.

I currently drive a Prius (Phobe), which I got mainly because I also own an RV (Sophie) and I wanted to off-set my carbon foot print. Then I saw my MINI (MAXX), saw that the mileage was almost the same, but the look was far superior and the drive was out of this world. I can't wait to receive MAXX and put Phoebe on the auction block.

I find that people love MINIs or hate them. There is no in-between. I think it's because they are so distinct looking. Sometimes people just cannot handle all that in-your-face flashiness that some of the MINIs have going for them. I was so excited when I got mine. I thought everyone else would love it as much as me, and I was really disappointed when a "friend" of mine asked how many clowns I could fit in there. . . I am used to that sort of mixed reaction now, and I know that sometimes people are staring only because they don't know what to say, not because they are admiring my MINI. Oh well. My MINI makes ME happy, and that is all that matters.

Someone asked me "Why did you buy that Clown Car"? I promptly replied: "Because they threw in the Floppy shoes on the Deal".

I just roll with stupid comments because the fact remains: I love my car and other's comments and opinions will never change that fact!
