New Bay Area McS

I bought a 2011 McS two weeks ago, and I love it. I test drove one about a month ago and afterward knew I had to have one. I'm about half-way through the break-in period, can't wait to really give it a good thrashing.

This board has been great for reading up on the car (like suggesting new tires - the run flats are pretty bad) and is a great resource for all things Mini.

My only gripe is that the HK stereo is really poor for a 'premium' stereo upgrade. Not having an option to tune the mid range is ridiculous.

Other than that I love driving this car and love the burble!

Congrats & Welcome! I miss the bay area so much. It's not that there's a bad place to own a MINI but the bay area has so many fun drives. Enjoy your new ride...it's beautiful.

Welcome to the gang, and congrats on your new MINI. I'm not sure where down south you actually are, but don't dump the run flats JUsT because there's a vocal opposition to them here. Do so if you want a cushier ride and want to carry a spare or rely on the roadside assistance. But whatever you decide, make your own decision. Im sure you are, so I don't mean to sound jerky. But anyway here in sf the roads are pretty bad, and with all the distraction there's a lot of flotsam in the road. I found, in the last 5 years of MINI ownership, that they came in handy, on late nights and on the way to meetings, that sort of thing, where conventional rubber would have been tough to deal with in those situations. Mostly though, it's my wife you enjoys the peace of mind with them. I do understand, however, the desirability for switching them out for the track or to save money on tire repair. Fwiw, I do have runflats repaired locally.

Have you been out driving with the redwood MINI guys at all?

Thanks for the concern; I commute from San Jose to Mountain View and drive to Sacramento frequently, and they are really loud on the freeway. I was slightly hesitant about switching to regular tires and carrying a can of slime, but between the roadside assistance from Mini and my insurance I should be covered.

The noise and the expense don't seem worth it to me. We'll see if I change my mind after the inevitable flat!

San jose here... Slime products offers a different types of repair kits.I bought one at wallmart for $25 which carry all the time instead of a spare tire .http://www.walmart.com/ip/Slime-Road...ReviewTitleBar. Drive up Calaveras rd or Mt.hamilton, its a nice twisty road up there.Let me know and I'll go with you.

Welcome, side car!

I swapped out my runflats, and about six months later, got my first flat ever (in 30 years!) on the road. At 10pm. On a dark back street in Watsonville. And I had taken my compressor out of the boot. But conventional do ride a bit better, and are a boatload cheaper. I keep a spare set of runflats for long roadtrips - never know if they'll have our odd size tires out in the middle of nowhere.
Note: I carry a dynaplug and a compressor vs. slime.
