That car wants to be driven like it was stolen. Unless you are looking for max fuel economy, do yourself a favor and keep your upshifts north of 3K. Truthfully there is not really a "correct answer" to that question.

I like how BensMini put it. 
My S is just too much damn fun; I find it nearly impossible to restrain myself enough to drive economically & go for max fuel mileage. Therefore, I'm usually shifting from 4-5K RPMs, but by time I hit 4th gear I'm well into "uh oh" territory in suburbia & find myself checking the rearview, expecting & fearing the polezei/policia/5-oh/Johnny Law.
