Does the power steering pump have to be replaced if the rack needs to be replaced? thanks

 

No, but I would flush it and make sure there is no metal flake in the fluid. If there is, you will want to replace the reservoir which contains a filter.

 

Thanks, dealer says leak in right side of p/s rack causes vibration in car. I don't feel it. What would cause a vibration with just a little slit, not even enough to leak on garage floor. Dealer says to replace p/s pump and fan also.

 

The P/S rack can leak on the outter seals and all the fluid will sit in the inner tie rod boot. Never seen this where it would cause a vibration though

If the P/S fan seizes up or is inoperable the P/S pump can overheat.
Or if the P/S rack leaks out the fluid and you run the pump dry this can also damage the pump
