This thread smells like bait...

O.k., I'll bite. I never once considered what others would think when contemplating the purchase.

The only time I wonder what others are thinking is when I'm passing, weaving, and bobbing my way around the them. Then I hit the gas some more and all is forgotten.

Which brings me to my second point: what you perceive as insults to you have nothing to do with self-confidence. The remarks were merely various ways of saying buy what you want and who cares what anybody else thinks. The fact that you are so worried about what others will think about your choice of car speaks to your self-confidence, not anyone else's.

So, I will reiterate what others here have said. Buy what you want. If you have that much disease regarding what others think of what you do, take the safe road and buy that civic/accord/corolla/camry. No back bone or thicker skin come with a MINI. You have to supply those on your own.
Very well said.

I never even thought about it either. I have loved Mini's since the very first one I ever saw, which was a classic Mini racing SCCA. Fast as snot, nimble, and fun to look at.

What else is there???

This whole thread is absurd. Who cares what anyone drives. I drive what I want. Be it a Porsche or a MINI or a Prius. Anyone who questions their sexuality based on that needs some real help.

I am just curious what society thinks. Yes, I know I should not care. But in reality we all care. So what do you folks think? Any unusual stories?
I realize this is a Mini board so I am not looking for “oh come on, this is the best car ever”, just looking for some objective opinions from folks who might have though similarly.
Thanks
No way MINIs are for girls silly boy. Most of us on this forum are female, only way boys can join are if they are of alternate lifestlye, then you can be part of QOC (Queer Owners Club). Just kidding but don't take your sexuality so serious that it impedes your car descions, it only makes others wonder just how secure you really are.

I can't really believe this thread, is the question whether or not a MINI is a chick car? Pecentage of male MINI ownership is substantially higher than that of Chevy, Ford, or Toyota, Honda, etc. Possibly we would lose to Jeep but who in his right mind wants to be beaten to death in that vehicle, and Hummer?? The answer is MINI is not a chick car but can certainy be owned and driven by chicks, and boys, girls, men, or any combination thereof.

This thread is hilarious.
I dont see the MINI as a chick,BI,or "Gay" persons car. It simply is a modern interation of the original sports car. I have seen multiple signitures on this site of people listing Porsche, Hummer, Mustangs, and any other sort of "MANS" car as second vehicles, or vehicles their MINI's have replaced. I think that SUNNYSKIES nailed your question in post #3. I am in no way GAY and I have owned two MINI's why, because they are a blast to drive, More fun in fact than the 12 second Evo I replaced with a JustaCooper.
Oh I live in Colorado and if you see a JEEP thats not purpose built for going off road, 99% of the time its a CHICK driving it!!! Doesn't this make the Ol'e MANLY JEEP a CHICK CAR? They love the yellow ones.

When I saw my EB/EB MCS JCW on the dealer lot one Sat morning I knew I was going to buy it - period. No second guessing, no wondering if it was the "right" thing to do. But then I knew the history of the cars and had owned a Mini too. Mine was sky blue with a blue interior - not exactly a "manly" color in some people's minds, but I didn't care - I liked the way it looked. The way it drove was the icing on the cake!

Later I bought a Lazer blue Clubman S - what can I say? I like blue cars!

I also have 2 miniture Poodles (appropriately referred to now as the Mini-Poopers) and my wife, 2 kids and 7 grandchildren can all reinforce the fact that I am not gay, don't act or dress gay or anything else.

A true man can drive any car he wants - period.

PS, dwheelie You are doomed for ownership anyway, regardless of what others think.

Look at all the prophecies in my first post on the forum.

Why else or how else could they sell Corvettes?

I'm kidding. I actually have a lot of respect for the current "Vettes, they're a hell of a car. I still wouldn't want one, but I can appreciate how well they run and handle now.

I agree! My husband's Vette sits next to my MINI in the garage and they get along very well - both fun cars!

Those two wouldn't be manly either. Mostly driven by the over 60 crowd with one foot in the grave.

I've had stick from people in the past about the MIN being gay/girlie, not being manly etc. Even more so as people think the SAR on the end of my plate is short for Sarah. when I out-handle them on the track and road they don't say anything more about it. Yes, my car is probably the most un-manly colour, but I love it.

To be honest, my girlfriend is more likely to have a 'manly' car than me. She is a fan of Porsche 997's and Audi RS's.

Don't worry about what others think, just buy a good car!

with apologies to Percy Sledge

"When a man owns a Mini
Can't keep his mind on nothing else
He'll trade the world
For the good thing he's found
If she's bad he can't see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down"....

And so forth...
