First Day "Firsts"
First Day "Firsts"
First wave, first "insult", first compliment...
My partner and I drove over from Roanoke to Richmond to pick up my new MCS yesterday. The process at Crown MINI was informative and fun, even though when I walked in the showroom, I waltzed right by my car not realizing it was mine (I assumed it would be outside). I must admit, I can understand why they had it on the showroom floor and showed it off to everybody.
After I started my trip home, I decided to stop in at Starbucks and grab some much needed coffee. As I pull up to the window, the young lady hands me my drink and exclaims, "Oh my gosh! Those things are really big inside! My sister wants one, but I thought they would be too small."
"Yes, there's a lot of room and they're a lot of fun," I said based on my half hour of ownership.
"Not to mention they're cute as a button."
I'm sure my face dropped. How insulting! "It's not cute."
"What?"
"My car. It's not cute. I prefer badass."
She let out a weak laugh, smiled and handed over my non-fat, no-whip mocha. Badass, indeed!
I make my way to Roanoke and dropped by my sister's place to show off the new ride. A freind of her 17 year old son was there and heaped praise on my choices. "Cool" "Sweet" and yes, "Badass". Obviously, this smart young man was proof that there is indeed hope for the future of the country.
I had gone all day without seeing another MINI on the road and was nearing my home when I noticed a red Cooper coming down the street. There aren't a lot of MINIs in Roanoke and this was one I had never seen around town. The driver was frantically waving at me and I returned the favor and gave a nod. It's good to know that despite what I read here, the fine art of waving is at least alive and well in my hometown.
Today was spent playing with the OBC and taking Angus for a spin in the country. (Not to mention finding about three or four other reasons to take him out. "What?!?! Only a half gallon of milk left? I'll go to the store right now and get some!") I'm looking forward to many other "firsts" with the car in the years ahead. In the meantime, I'll take seconds on compliments, waves and even the insult of being told I have a cute car. And yeah, and as many excuses to take him for a drive that I can.

Don't expect the "cute" comments to stop.....they never will. Take it as a compliment. What else can you do?
Congrats on the new Mini. Driving a Mini is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Let's face it, the MINI is cute, it was designed cute like the VW Beatle, it is even cuter style wise than the original Mini's. But being cute does not prevent you from being a BAD ***! MOTOR ON!
There are a few in my gallery. It's a beautiful day and work is light, so I may head up on the Blue Ridge Parkway to try and get some better ones.
As for the "cute" comments, yeah, I know. There's nothing you can do about it. When a car is this good lookin', what can you do? People just can't help themselves! In the future, if somebody calls him cute, I say instead that he's "ruggedly cute."
