Not a bit stupid! I picked up the nickname in college when I was just trying to change one of my handle on Instant Messenger. I was frustrated because my common last name meant that every sensible combination of first initial, last name, etc., was taken. I was on a huge "Clockwork Orange" kick at the time and just said "Fine, I'll use that with a different fruit" and just randomly picked tomato. But the nickname actually really stuck, probably with at least some thanks to the red hair, so I've kept using it since!
'Kaililly' is my wifes name on the internet, after our two Mini Schnauzers. As this is going to be her car I signed her in. I thought she might like to get on this site but she isn't too interested (says she gets enough computer during the day at work) so I do it all and let her know whats going on.
Good to hear that you are really impressed with the HK. We almost got a 2009 until we heard that they were to upgrade to the HK and then we decided to wait. Besides, none of the 2009 cars on the lot were exactly what we wanted...
There has been a pretty bad cold going around....and that pesky swine flu thing.
rduke222 - My wife would almost laugh...I was a lineman for years, a troubleman for the La Jolla, Bird Rock, Soledad and North PB area for about 6 years, a General Foreman for the Beach Cities underground crews for about a year and then a planner/designer just prior to quitting and moving to Oregon. Haven't been back for about 14 years.
As to the rotating black or brown outs, that started after I left and am not really familiar with what they are doing. But I really believe you hit it on the head. Many influential people in the Soledad/La Jolla areas.
I have to admit, the biggest thing I miss is the weather in San Diego...BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!

Welly welly welly well...
Also, I shoud note this here: I asked my MA about the break-in period and he actually told me *not* to baby the car -- especially a JCW -- too much in those first "break in" miles. <snip>
So he emphasized -- drive the car like YOU want to drive it. If you want to baby it, hey, go for it, but if I wanted a car to baby, I shouldn't have gotten a JCW.

There is a continuing difference of opinion on whether or not one should "break in" a new Mini. Search on the term in this forum and you'll read a variety of opinions.
If you look at the official manual that comes with your car you will note that Mini Cooper does not agree with your MA.
SO...you have the official recommendation from the manufacturer, and the advice of your MA. WHo is right?
Consider the sources. What are the qualifications to become a MA? What makes his/her advice valid? They've been selling them for years and that's what they think or their customers think etc. ? 1.) This is anecdotal 'evidence' and is clearly shaped by their opinion (and motives). 2.) This is a CAR SALEPERSON...not the best person to advise you on anything. They are there to make money from you...period. They may be real nice and talk real pretty but never forget that they are there to make as much money as they can get away with. They are not automotive engineers. I know this upsets some because they 'love' their MA but you need to get real about who is advising you. The MA wants you to be happy now.
Mini Cooper's recommendation comes from its (German) automotive engineers. It is likely they have actual data that has been collected on thousands of vehicles. It is unlikely they are merely expressing their opinion. Mini Cooper wants you to be happy with the car for as long as you have it.
Another thing to note. The negative sequellae that result from improper break in are going to be subtle. When someone says "I just went for it and I don't have any problems", that is meaningless. They wouldn't notice any problems until the the tires wear out sooner than they should or they need a brake job earlier that what is normal....and they probably won't associate that with the something they did 12 months ago.
If you want to follow the advice of your MA ...that's up to you. Just be sure you read what Mini says about the subject.
Nope, no port stuff. It's all factory. My MA told me today it is scheduled to leave 11/6 to CO. I'm hoping sooner!
Bird Rock
Wow, major coincidence (and yes a little off MINI topic, but it IS where my MINI will live). I actually LIVE in Bird Rock!
I see a patient at his home on Vista De La Mesa (I'm a podiatrist)...I think that is still Bird Rock. I'll keep an eye out for your Mini.

Bird Rock was always one of my favorite areas. North PB to the shores. Beautiful coastline and scenic side streets
My wife used to live on Hill St in Pt Loma. Between us both we've covered quite a bit of the San Diego area. My older sister still lives in La Mesa.
You guys can probably go stand on Soledad and watch Don Carlos go by...with a good set of binoculars!!
Meanwhile
I'll look for you.
BTW...My actual name is Jere.
I am also San Diegan. However, I skipped Brecht MINI since they did not give me any discount. So I went to South Bay MINI to order my MINI.
My MA is trying to locate the vehicle and get the ETA. It was on Turandot and discharged at the port on 10-30-09. I am hoping to drive off my MINI this weekend.

Yup- I'm heading to Brecht too- My MA says around the 15th (but that's a Sunday so I don't see it happening) so I'm thinking probably the middle of the week- 18th or so. That gives it a week for VDC, but from the sound of things that can get pretty arbitrary depending on a lot of external factors. Either way I hope it's before Thanksgiving so I can be very thankful- which I already am because of the 2.9%.
Jay
I am sure it is not lost. Look at this status from Turandot. The vehicle was discharged on 10/30. However, it says "delivered from" on 11-2. I think 11-2 is the day when the vehicle reached VDC. Then it will process at the VDC for couple days at least. And the dealer should get it shortly after that.

If the Don Carlos arrives on the early on the 11th (it has arrived at most ports early in the morning) and the Priority One cars are unloaded first and processed first ...they could conceivably leave the VDC on the 12th or 13th. Oxnard to Escondido in 3½ or 4 hours... Ready to drive off the lot on the 14th or 15th. It could happen.
I'm thinking I might head towards Valley View in the new car... for the curvy roads.<img>
Our mutual MA...
Who is your MA? I started with Amanda but she passed me to Rod . I think it was because she wasn't going to make very much money from me (no dealer financing, no dealer options,no trade-in). She was very successful...I went there originally set on a MC. She had me test drive a MCS after the MC. I was driving it real easy so she said "give it some gas". Yow! What a rush.

And I head towards Valley View (and beyond) every day! I live at the base of Palomar Mountain, off the 76, which is what got me looking at MINI's in the first place. Since I drive those roads anyway, why not have fun doing it?
Here's hoping for early delivery!
Jay
I'm pulling for you Johnny! You still got that flu that's floating around? You really need to stay out of the office, just to be safe...civic duty and all that...

Who Knows maybe my Mini "Pip" will arrive in New Mexico way before the 15th OF Nov- Cactusklaw -Abq.
Pics of new MINI!
OK, here's my little guy.
It's so awesome. Every day after work this week, I cruise down Bourbon Street and just watch heads turn to check us out.
I was heading home for an appointment (and to take this picture) and a school crossing guard was staring at me...I waved to her and she was waving back so excited I was just grinning ear to ear.
FUN FUN!!
The blue house is mine, btw.
