Looking at a 2002.... any advice

So there's this add.... "great running condition, single owner, great car for a student, gets good gas mileage, sunroof, automatic
lowest priced mini you will find! "

I called them and they want $7000
I'm told it's got 127,000 miles.
What kind of repairs might I expect?
Thank you.

If it's a regular MINI (non-S) with the CVT auto and 127,000 miles, I would definitely insist on proof of regular maintenance (fluid changes, etc.) performed on this transmission.

^^ Yeah, I'd want a full service record before buying, considering the CVT has its history of troubles.

IF it's been serviced regularly, how many miles can these things go without major repairs?
Also, sounds like the major repair I should expect at some point would be the CVT?

I'm not sure of the exact number but I'm sure we've seen more than a few 2002s hit 6 digits without major repair. I mention CVTs specifically because they have a reputation of completely failing early on (say, 70-80k mi.), and usually outside of the warranty window, thus leaving the unfortunate owner holding the bag for a transmission replacement to the tune of $5k-8k.

The other major issue I've heard of is the power steering pump replacement. Not as major but there seems to be a lot of complaints about it.

Mind you this is all coming from a MY2008 owner. You're going to want to ask this question again in the "1st Gen" forums. Good luck

Most likely a Cooper, so probably will need a $8000 auto tranny replaced.
MCS might be more reliable, or even somewhat plagued Midlands 5-speed from Cooper
