newbie questions
Hello everyone. This is my first post to the site. I am interested in getting a new Mini JCW hardtop and have a few questions. I have been searching the dealership websites for NY/NJ/PA and JCW hardtops are hard to come by, making it tough to find one just the way I want it.
1) Would it be more expensive to order one compared to buying one off the lot? If so how much more? Are ordered cars still eligible for dealer incentives?
2) How long (ballpark) would I have to wait until the car arrives?
3) When do the 2010's come out, and will the 09's be cheaper at that point? 4) Does anyone know if there are any changes expected in the 2010s from the 09's?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

MINIs generally sell close to MSRP no matter how much haggling you do. Although recently there have been some good financing deals and Morristown MINI currently is giving $1000 off the MSRP on two of the three JCWs they have. The current financing offer only applies if you take delivery by June 1st.
When my friend ordered one in North Carolina last year, she had a three month wait, but every dealership is different as they each have a certain number of "build slots" and more may be filled at one dealership than at another. This wait time may be completely different now.
In regards to the model-year difference, there may be some special editions announced next week at MINI United for 2010 but we will have to see. I don't believe too many feature changes are expected.

I just bought my 09 clubbie and was going through some of the same questions that you have. I talked to EVERY dealer in PA/NJ. Prestige Mini in Mahwah was by far the best priced for one that I wanted. I worked with Alan who was amazing to deal with. I was deciding between them and Morristown (since they are a bit closer to me). I got a much better deal from Prestige and they didn't try to add on extra fees, unlike Morristown. They told me I had to pay for detailing the car and it was part of the invoice
. Anyways, Prestige was 2.5 hours away and I would buy from Alan again over any of the dealers that are close. I am sure that if you gave them a call and talked to him that he will give you the best deal. He is also on the forum here and it looks like they have 4 in stock. Can’t stress enough how much I love my clubbie and the service that I got there.

i ordered new. At the time, my dealership was offering about a $1000 off of new cars in stock. But I do not believe they had all that many in stock. As others indicated, ordering new, the the dealerships are selling them close to sticker price. They gave me about $500-$600 off and through in wheel locks. There are so many variations/options, color/trims to select and these cars when ordered, they come built to your order. If you find a new car with exactly what you want and nothing extra, then go for it. Otherwise, order one.
As far as how long from date of order to pickup - My dealership said it would take about 6 weeks and it arrived on time, perhaps a day or two earlier. Check with your dealer as to how long they presently take until ready for pickup. One thing that effects the delivery is how many they have sold at same time you place your order. The way I understand it, the dealer may have a certain number of slots/MINIs that he will get for say the month. If the dealer has ordered some to sell as in-stock and he also has sold a lot of MINIs that month, then some of the MINIs may be delayed to portion out the cars coming off the production line to other dealerships. This may also be effected as to exactly what model you have ordered. I do not know the specifics regarding this - Maybe others will fill in the details. But bottom line is if you know basically what you want to order, then the dealer should have a pretty good idea when it will be ready for pickup.
