Name my MINI!
Name my MINI!
Hello all! Newbie here. I'm patiently awaiting our new '09 Mini Cooper S in mellow yellow
due to arrive in NY on 5.22.09.
So we're torn between names for the little sucker.. The original was "B" [for the obvious reason, and bc our last name begins with a B]
Now the hub thinks "RUPERT" should be the name. Yea, random... That's how we roll.
So what's the verdict here? What do you all like better?

Hrm... mellow yellow/black S... black sport stripes... rear spoiler.. black web spokes...
I'm definitely feeling a bug theme here... You know there's the obvious bee themes we could go with, but that seems so overdone... and while I am a HUGE transformers fan... I just can't in good conscience tell you go to with Bumblebee because... everyone and their mom with a yellow car is using it right now... and they don't even have the disco ball.
I don't know if you're a comic book nerd at all, but I'm really digging "The Hornet" for your car... primarily because of the Peter Parker reference which is a play on those awesome wheels you chose and the vehicle's colors. Not to mention the character concept being used throughout the Marvel Universe but never really picked up and run with as a stand alone story.
Here's the wikipedia article if you're not familiar:

My advice though... wait until your car comes and you sit behind the wheel for the first time. He or she will tell you all about him/herself within your first few minutes on the road... if there's a name... it will come to you when you're really starting to get into the motoring groove... and it will be the best name ... ever.

Rupert is kinda cute and original. Keep in mind, that if you are having trouble picking a name, you could always wait until you actually take delivery and drive your "little sucker"...something fitting will come you. Best of luck and happy motoring!
LG: That is one creepy lookin' spider...

But seriously... it does work like that. You find yourself thinking about the car a certain way as you get a feel for them on the road. Viola's came to me on the drive home from the dealership.
From the beginning, I knew she was a girl. She's sexy and sleek and very smart just in the way she looks. She also felt a little devious. I mean come on... cars just shouldn't handle the way a MINI handles. Other cars I've driven just don't stick to the road when you turn the wheel, they don't follow the lines as you move through the bends. There's something sinister about that, something dark and addictive. It's like Belgian chocolate and really, those sorts of things should be illegal.
So I was motoring along feeling all of this stuff... and I was wondering if her name would come to me, or if she even had one. The CD player had been stuck on Radiohead for about half an hour, even though I'd set it on the randomizer. I'd determined then that she was my pale and tragic emo girl and she liked it that way.... and then a bird flew in front of me and there was red all over my windscreen. As I hit the switch for the bug juice, I realized that this car and I were made for each other because my mom would have freaked out if she'd hit a bird... and then the perfect name came to me in a line from Shakespeare in Love. "And her name was Viola."
She's been Viola ever since.
It's cool when it happens. Seriously, wonderfully cool

Ok.
Taking a cue from Donovan....
"I'm just mad about SAFFRON...."
The opening line of the song Mellow Yellow...
Surprised that no one had mentioned that one. Maybe TOO obvious?? but it FITS!

I like Saffron...except I'll have to echo RandomGemini, with a little deviation. The car DOES tell you what it's name is - although it doesn't actually "talk" to you, it still "tells" you...and each car has it's own way to "tell." The name just pops into your head and won't go away, you "feel" the car confirming it, and WHAMMO. Bob's your uncle.
Yay for you!
Yay for you!
I think I was still cackling at "pale emo girl"
What a way to break in the car, huh?!!!

You haven't seen my car! Oh no wonder that's funny.
She actually IS a pale and tragic emo girl! You can't see them in the photo, but she has black jack side scuttles and a black jack graphic on the sunroof. The entire interior is black on black. Black cloth seats, dark gray color line, piano black interior surface.
