First bumper scratch - how long before your first?

Got my first bumper scratch on the back. Must have happened during parallel parking in San Francisco. I just noticed it today.

My 2009 MCS is about 6 weeks old with just over 2000 miles on her.

How long before your first sad event?

Any advice on touching up the rear bumper?

Thanks.

Mine was 5 weeks old when I guy backed out of a parking spot as I was driving by and backed right into the passenger door. I hadn't even made the first payment on it yet. Insurance took care of the whole thing though. Didn't cost a thing, but it took me a few days to recover...emotionally.

Mine was a couple weeks into it on my '03 MC. I was parked at Ruby Tuesday's on a slight incline. Apparently I didn't pull the ebrake up enough and it gently rolled into a Jeep Cherokee that was parked in front of me on the incline. Didn't do anything noticeable, so I didn't get it touched up, but like Bhelton, it took me a couple days to stop crying.

If you have a surface scratch (something that's not too deep) you should just use a touch up pen... http://www.autovisuals.com

If something deeper, I would take it to a pro. But if you really want to do it yourself you'll need touch up paint from the dealer and a kit from Langka... http://www.langka.com

I backed into a basketball hoop leaving a 3 inch orange slash on my back bumper before the break in was over. it took about 2 hours, but i was able to buff it out with some clay and glide.

i hate people who cant park, hit your car, and then drive away.

last night, someone parked right behind me on the side of the street. it was really dark and didn't see the car. i backed my 06 RG MCS out of my parking space and into the car. it left a small gash in the rear bumper. i guess i am going to have to take it to a pro. the warranty is up and don't want to get it fixed at the dealership. i haven't recovered yet. :(

Three MINIs, 93,000 miles of motoring and not a single scratch, ding, or dent.

Now watch, tomorrow one of them will be struck by lighting and instantly disintegrate.

Well... if glass counts, the PW MINI took a stone to the windshield when it was about a year old and it left a nasty chip.

Not even debris??? You must have them coated in that 3M stuff...

... kidding, of course. Unless you actually do have them like that.

I didn't say anything about stone chips.

The CR MINI is very nearly immaculate. It has taken a couple of stones above the clearbra but I touched them up and Langka'd them and you would be hard pressed to find the spots. Looks very nearly like it did the day it was delivered. Only with about 30 mods.

The other two, yeah, they have their share of stone chips on the front end. Nothing major though, only the kind of stuff that cannot be avoided.

Not sure how long it was... but, my wife backed into the MINI with the X3.
Just like that... both cars dented!
Thank God for paintless dent repair!

Yeah, I was like "WHAAA??? HOW'D HE MANAGE THAT???"

How hard is the Langka stuff to use? I already have a couple of stone knicks.

It's a little tricky. The thing is, you have to fill the chip with touch up paint just to the point where you have room for clear coat on top of it.

So... clean up the chip. Fill it with touch up paint. Use the Langka blob remover. Put on a thin layer of clear coat. Use the Langka blob remover again. And hopefully you have a nice, smooth finish that has clear coat on top.

My first attempt was not very good, so I wiped it out with some Langka and started over. Better. Once you do a couple, you'll get the hang of it.

Sweet. I'll probably wait till I have more than two. And those two aren't very conspicuous, anyway.

Is there a good practice method, other than just going to town?
