Our girl is making pretty good time. If my calculations based on her past progress are correct (probably not, but...), unless she slows down significantly, she should arrive at the canal around 20:00 GMT Saturday night which would be noon Pacific Saturday. I don't think she's booked to go through the canal until Monday morning, though. I hope there's an available slot for her to get through early.

Of course, I know nothing about shipping so this is all just conjecture. If I were you, I wouldn't even bother reading this.

I believe there is a few folks discussing about what kind of bird they are in one of the threads I came across a while ago but can't find right now.
The utterly amazing Peregrine Falcon!

Aww, how sweet!! The guardian of the locks has a mate! Elegantmini and I were the ones discussing this on the first page of this thread. That is a lovely picture, Dinlaka.

Well, we are at the Panama Canal now. Not sure when we will go through, but we are not too far away from being West Coast Mini's!

Looks like we're in a holding pattern. I hope we don't have to wait until Monday to go through. I've been watching for hours and it doesn't look like there's a lot of traffic going through the locks.

I don't know if this is correct but I just saw the Ikan Tamban transiting at the Miraflores locks at 2:59 am, just now (Panama time, 2 hrs ahead of PDT). According to the schedule here; http://www.boydsteamship.com/daily_traffic_report.htm , Ikan Tamban is one of the Regular vessels (Atlantic/Southbound) scheduled to be in transit #8 in the AM21st slot.

I don't know if this directly translates to Elektra, being #4 for Super vessels in the AM22nd slot, will be at the same spot Miraflores locks) probably in the next 24 hrs or earlier. That also might mean that she will be passing through Gatun Locks some time Sunday afternoon! Too bad I am not going to be at home watching her, having to run some chores the whole day. If you guys are watching it pass through Gatun, please save the pic directly from the webcam and post it here when she does! Cheers.

Of course, I could be totally wrong. It's getting late, you know.

Hi there. I just got back home....not sure if I missed the Elektra passing through Gatun Locks already? Can anybody confirm that?

Anyway...I just checked the Miraflores Locks hi-res webcam and the Sovi R is in the process of transiting. So I am hoping that Elektra will be through the same point soon.

I've been gone since noon, but it looks to me like the crew is taking today off.

I believe we are still waiting, but will be going through early tomorrow.

I for one will be sleeping, but if anyone else gets webcam shots be sure to post them.

I don't want to jinx us, but at least we have been pretty lucky in the weather department. Check out the recent posts for the Traviata (the ship behind us). They're faced with inclement weather and have diverted off course.

Bye bye Panama canal....full throttle to Port Hueneme now!

According to the voyage detail on the WW tracking, it looks like Elektra already left Panama canal for good. The Manzanillo Port, Panama already turned red when I checked just now.

Too bad I did not catch it in one of them webcams .....oh well

I'm not sure we are through the canal yet. According to this link http://www2.mitpan.com/en/TheCompany...2/Default.aspx the Manzanillo Port is on the Atlantic side. Plus the WW tracking page shows arrival at the port on 9/21 and departure 9/22.

I'd say keep watching those webcams...

I've been watching on and off. I don't think our mother ship has passed through either. The big red dot on sailwx is still on the north side.
http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shi...html?call=SIWB.

I've seen a couple of big ships pass through Miraflores locks, but how I have no idea which one is ours. How are we supposed to tell?
http://www.pancanal.com/eng/photo/camera-java.html

Plus the Electra is still listed in the queue on http://www.boydsteamship.com/daily_traffic_report.htm

So, if by chance, I do spot our ship, what am I supposed to do to capture it? Save the picture? How do we make a quicktime video like on the previous threads?

I thought I saw her going through just now, but unless they painted over the company name on their ships, it must be another carrier.

Right click on the picture, do a save as. Each picture is about 24K (i.e. really small). Save multiple pictures. Then they can be put into an Animoto slideshow (see this slide show from Mini Takes The States 2006 http://www.gbmini.net/wp/2008/08/two...coast_in_a_gp/)

Yes, but that photo is from 2002. In 2005 she was elongated by 28 meters, so I'm sure her look has changed somewhat and I don't know if they still have the Wallenius Wilhelmsen name painted on the side. Look at the low res camera at Miraflores right now. It looks a lot like her. We'll have to wait until she's in the last lock and can see her name in the high res cam.

Is this her on the far right? The direction looks right but isn't she supposed to be white/green?

We'll know in a few minutes when she enters the last lock and we can see her on the high res camera.

Unfortunately, we can't save the hi-res images though.

But like you said, we will know for sure. Keep watching. I'm enjoying this!
