Mini damaged while at VDC....

My MA informed me today....after my MCS was help for going on 3 weeks at the VDC, that the car was damaged in the tropical storm that passed through Brunswick last week. Said it needed a new hood, and the delay was due to waiting on the hood. I ordered the car the middle of June.....still waiting 11 weeks later.

Anybody else have anything like this happen to them.

Gee... no. I know the storm caused a lot of flooding - but it wasn't THAT powerful.... I would NOT be happy getting a new car and having the whole hood replaced..

Make sure you check it over VERY careful, and refuse delivery if it's not right. I know, I know... you have been waiting TOO LONG already, but if it's not right - maybe you an find another dealer who is quicker!

I don't know how some dealers seem to be able to instantaneously get you into production (mine did - in fact I had 3 cars!!) and others are weeks..

11 weeks? No problem, I'm going on 7 months and it might be another month. It will be worth it, right?

I would have no issues with them replacing the hood, it sounds like something may have fallen on it, better to replace it brand spankin new then fill and sand, primer, paint, clear....

The VDC has these parts planned out ahead of time, I'm sure it will be just a short time. They have down-draft booths at the VDC and your golden..

Hang in there.

Some wind might have blown something on the hood, damaging it.

I'm at 10 weeks now myself. But no damage to my car (so they say), just a clusterf*#& getting my MINI on a truck from the VDC to the dealer. Which is really, really frustrating. My delivery date's changed 4 times on the OL.

I'd rather have to have a new hood than a new roof! But take your camera and take really good pics (under the hood as well) when you finally do get to pick it up. Just in case there's something that no one's noticed, they won't be able to blame you for it later.

Wow that's so sad about your hood! I remember reading these posts while waiting for my MINI and hoping to gosh-golly-gee that my MINI wouldn't be damaged at the VDC. You know they're only required to tell you about damage if it exceeds a certain percentage of cost?

That sucks, at least it is just the hood.. They should be able to tell you exactly what was replaced, there was a thread on the VDC in Port Hueneme and it said they only have to tell the dealership if the damage is more than 3%. I would figure more was placed then the hood

Inspect the car carefully, but I'm sure you'll be satisfied. The VDC is practically an extension of the factory, and they have the equipment and trained personnel there to fix it 100%.

I had a scratch on my front bumper while at the VDC, and I've never been able to tell where it was. The only reason I know about it is it came up on my car's history.

The scratch would actually have been the least of my worries anyway. My MINI's a 2006, but when they built it, they accidentally stamped it with a 2007 VIN number. The little mishap added a month to my delivery time.

Just got a call from my MA that my week 37 '09 JCW was damaged while being moved at the Charleston,SC VDC. According to him the details are not available as to how it happened(at this time) other than the drivers door and rocker panel sustained enough damage for them to warrant replacement. In addition the factory didn't install the correct seats(I ordered rooster red it has grey cloth).Naturally I've refused to take delivery and after the wait and the anticipation it's a big disappointment. Now I'm trying to decide between a re-order or waiting for the JCW R57 Cabrio build slot early next year.
