I called my MA from Mountain View MINI up in northern California. He estimates my car will be ready by Sept 17-18, which is pretty soon. The boat docks at Port Hueneme this weekend!

Went for a little evening drive - very solid with nimble handling. I actually loved the feel of the run flats. She's a stout little girl with the additional JCW sport suspension and JCW strut brace! Did my best to try to follow the recommended breaking in - varying the acceleration and keeping her under the limits. The xenon lights are better than I could have hoped for - very clear and sharp.
Still have a lot of stuff to read in the manuals. In the manuals set, there was two sets of keys and three manuals. I read in some thread there was supposed to be a template for the key, did anyone get one of those?
The only item, we ordered that was not yet installed is the carbon fiber rear diffuser - it will be installed after the 15th. I did purchase a three year tire warranty - Houston roads are bad and I tend to find all the nails.
I'll get more pics today.
Congratz to YOU! I know you're having a great time!!! I got the tire warranty as well. I've already had to buy a runflat for my other vehicle and they're NOT cheap! I also got the ding paint protection/window protection. Maybe I shouldn't have, but I got carried away. I love watching people's faces when they see the Mini. They ALWAYS smile.

It's not the waiting - it's the expecting on day or rather counting on one day only to find out it will be another day - that's what's killing me.

To all who have yet to get their MINIs home hang in there. We'll be motoring very soon and sharing pictures/stories. Now our job is to ensure we keep this thread going. I would hate to see it slowly die - we're just getting to know each other.
I don't think it will die. I think this is a great place to have our questions answered and get help from each other on every aspect of our Minis. I'm not leaving until someone kicks me out.

On that note, does anyone else have the colorline seats? I'm trying to figure out if I should scotchguard them or if there is a better protectant out there for 1/2 fabric 1/2 leather seats???

It sure is and we won't led it fade away! What should we use for the different interior materials? I need to start looking into it too. Hilla's seats are cloth fabric how quickly should they be treated? Which reminds me I should go take some interior pics! Let's post some details please.

West coast MINIs need to settle down and not try to take over the ship so much! There is clearly some mischievous MINIs interrupting radio transmissions!

I had the dealership install the invisishield, and the tires were a concern so I went for it. I was a little worried about the run flats ride quality, but I loved it! I could maybe see having an extra set of performance AX tires, but that would be sometime in the future. I'll have to see how the ding part works out. I've heard there are good paintless shops for those, and dry ice should do the trick. I'll have to read up on the dry ice. Anyone with any experience on the subject?

Tires

As long as we're talking tires, I have 16s on my car with the all-season run flats. I'm considering getting some actual winter performance tires, but don't know if I have to buy run flats or if it would be okay to get the regular Blizzaks. If I get regular snows, is there something that needs to be done for the "tire pressure sensor"??? Never really dealt with changing out run flats before with anything other than run flats.

Well, it's only a little sunny out, so hope it is helping Lucy. Here she is with her 30% tint all around (except windshield)

Very nice, tinker! I can't wait to see my PW/B clubbie!

Boy I hope your MA is playing the 'pad the estimated arrival date' game with the 9/17-18 date..

How do you 'break in' a car?

Can anyone point me to a thread or simply tell me the proper way to 'break in' a car? Here is what I am able to gather so far (pls. correct me if I'm wrong on any or all of the following):

* break in period is the first 1k miles
* do not exceed revs beyond 4 grand
* do not cruise at constant speed for long periods of time (what is considered a long time?)

anything else?

Saw a nice shiny new MINI today. Looked like it was just delivered. All shiny and new. Temporary tags. Wow. Must be nice.
Last time I heard from MA he thought they should have it on the 17th. probably be ready for pick up on the 20th or so.
Earlier would be nice.
Gettin' antsy.

I think the mileage is 1.5K. I plan to adjust my driving speed between 55 to 65 depending on the legal limit. I don't intend to use the cruise control or keep the speed constant for more than a couple of minutes. I am just going to play with it. Same goes with shifting, varying the length and speed and staying under the limits.

Well.... We picked-up our new MCS last evening and she's in the garage this morning waiting to be washed and detailed. It's my wife's and she just loves her - named her "Fergie". No pics yet, but soon if I can figure out what to do to post them.

RaceTripper - StL Mini got another truckload of Minis yesterday. I am pretty sure we saw your new JCW on the lot. There's one that looks like your photo.

CONGRATS RoadTrip2!! Glad 'fergie' is home with you!! Hoping RaceTripper's car was the one you saw!!

I really have to say (again) I just LOVE this car!!!! Or.. I should say.. "I LOVE LUCY!" I love being in a smaller car, rather than a BIG SUV.. which reminds me, I am getting Vanity Plates, and my top 3 available were:

SUV 2BIG
XTRA SML
P1P SQEK

It was a hard choice, but my mother and husband liked P1P SQEK the best, so that's what I am planning. I could still change.. so please vote - what's your favorite!?? Anyone else getting a vanity plate?

There have been many neg. MINI threads, and complaints about various things, so far I have found the following:

armrest - Okay!! No issues, doesn't slide open at all.
footwell Heat - I just don't have it - at all!
HiFi - sounds pretty good to me - no complaints at all!
Rattles - not one at all (so far!!)

I do agree that the window up/down switch and heated seat controls are on the low side and that a drink in the cup holder will get in the way.
Brake Dust - there is a lot!

I agree -- go with P1P SQEK!

I've got a couple of tiny rattles and buzzes, but nothing that really bugs me. So far, no problems with the armrest or footwell either, and I don't hear anything wrong with the stereo (although my standards may be low; I'm absolutely not an audiophile).

I have a problem with my tire pressure monitor -- started the car up last night, and it flashed a yellow warning icon at me. In a while, I'm going to go out there, check the pressure on all my tires, make sure they're all right, and then re-initialize the system...hopefully that will help!

-Will

They got a second truck yesterday? Was it a CR/W JCW with driving lights? If so, that should be mine. I'll call this morning to see.

False alarm. My car is not there, and due Monday or Tuesday. Maybe you saw the MC40 they have. Like mine, it's CR/W with driving lamps. I was half tempted to buy it, and it still has the numbered plate on the console.

rtwerk - cool image! thanks for posting
tinker - P1P SQEK !

sikamini - good point about the cruise control. I'll probably be conservative and use 2k for the break in period.

I couldn't help myself. It's been a LONG WAIT, and one has to do something. Hopefully the west coast Mini's will be on terra firma sometime monday, then up the street to the VDC, and then to the dealers. Time is getting shorter every day.
