Question about engines

Please forgive my ignorance, but I am new to MINIs. My question about engines is this: Was the S engine in the 1st generation supercharged vice turbocharged like the 2nd generation? Thanks

Yes - the first gen 'S' engine was supercharged. The particular supercharger used is the Eaton M45.
