Did a little driving today <g>.

Went back to the knee doctor today. He asked if I felt ready to go back to
lugging mail. I said, well... beings I've just picked up my new car, I guess that
must mean my legs still hurting <g>.

Actually, he originally said 4 to 6 weeks off to heal. That would put me returning
back to work on April 15th.

Huh, something about that date rings a bell. I'm sure if I think about it , it'll come
to me <g>.

I know just the thing to help me build up strength in my right leg <g>...

The gas pedal !!!

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!! That's all I can say. Oliver is so much fun to drive. I was driving down the expressway coming home from the dealership and I had to pass a car - ZOOMMM!

I did stall from a stop at the top of a hill - thank God nobody was behind me!! I have to get my rhythm back. I haven't driven a stick since high school! Believe me that was a long time ago!

I send a picture later tonight.

Nancy's Ollie...

Driving a stick will come back to you before you know it. My problem is
learning to drive a "different" stick. I keep forgetting Reverse is all the way
over to the left, and "up"<g>.

Glad to hear about the ZOOM... but remember your break in period <G>.

Have fun. I'm up to just shy of 400 miles since Thursday. Should be more,
but the weather has been poor... and mainly stayed around the house today.

I'll make up for it tomorrow <g>.

My MA told me to not go over 100 in the first 1200 and don't put it in cruise control - keep varying speeds. No over 100 yet. I only have about 80 miles on him so far. Its actually suppose to stop raining today - so I'll be able to open the sun roof all the way. Can't wait! Then up to the North Georgia Mountains on Wednesday.

You might want to check the "break in " threads...<g>.

I like the way your MA thinks... <g>, but I'm going to do my break in
just a little bit differently. Varying speeds are great... but I'd go with
the concensus of keeping your RPM's below 4500 as much as possible.

(On these WV hills, I'd love to be able to wind it out a bit... but I'm going
to be careful for the first 1200 miles or so.)

Some folks say it's best to run it hard early... but I'm not one of those
people <g>.

Enjoy your run in the Mountains. Try not to get too carried away until
you've had a chance to "learn" how your MINI reacts on the road...

(I need to get more used to having a 6 speed before I get to rambunctious.
Plus the handling's quite a bit different than a postal truck <g>)

FiNALLY!

Took possession of the new baby 3 hours ago in Atlanta!!!
It's PERFECT!!! (even if the mud flaps were still on order )
Then got to drive the 135 miles home via I-85, I-285, I-75.
Sigh - it really is a different ride from my '07 Cabrio - much smoother and of course quieter. Also hard to get used to the manual - first time with one in 15 years - wondered why it seemed to struggle turning into the driveway - in 5TH GEAR . It all seems to fit better and love the new tilt/TELESCOPE wheel and auto-UP windows, and iPod/bluetooth works perfectly.
First song - by E.L.O. - "Hold on Tight (to your dreams)" - like in the honda ad.

Poor MA - couldn't get over my giggling when I first saw it.

My hubby didn't understand when i told him he had to take picts at the dealership when i get my baby on Thursday. Does anyone else have problems with their spouses thinking they are crazy for falling in love with their new baby before it even arrives? Is their a MINImarriage counselor to help us through the rough times?

Picture of Oliver Twist

Here's a picture of my Ollie. This was taken on Saturday when we came home from the dealer. Now he's a true Georgian - all covered with pollen. He's also suppose to have checker board mirrors and a checkerboard graphic on the sun roof. They haven't come in yet. But picture it in your imagination!

My Dealer called, car is on it's way. Next day went to see the car which had arrived that morning, Monday 4/7, and was told it was damaged when unloaded from the transporter. BOOHOO. Front valance was scraped also the rocker panel under the car. They put the car on the lift. It's only cosmetics. I was offered to get a new car, 6 plus weeks, or this one will be totally fixed and if I'm not happy I will not have to take delivery. By the way I had the JCW tuning kit installed at the Delivery Center. What do you think, should I order or wait to see. Let me know.

I'd let them fix it first...

and go from there. I'd hate to wait 6 more weeks, when it's something
you'll probably never notice. Of course, if they do a poor job with the
repair, go from there. I'm guessing it won't take them too long to fix
that amount of damage.

Related note, I think I've got a small ping pong ball sized bad place in
my clear coat on the right quarter panel. Looks "fuzzy" and doesn't
seem to want to polish out. I'm planning on having them look at it
next time I'm in Cincy... nothing major, but I know it's there <g>.

Good luck Silverfinn... here's hoping your out driving your new MINI
before you know it...

Thanks, Postal, my sentiments exactly. Sorry about your paint. If your Dealer is like mine, they'll take care of it. Enjoy the ride.

Try to get a discount

Hey Silverfin, ask for a discount on the car - even if its just a few hundred off - that's a few hundred you don't have to pay for. Ask for 1K off and negotiate from there. I would take delivery though - especially if its cosmetic only.

Vary your speed for the first 1200, no cruise control, and don't go over 100.

That's it.

Mine told me to keep the speed below 100 and the RPM below 4000, but then winked and said, "But if the car's warmed up, you can push that RPM." I hadn't heard about the "no cruise control" - I used mine but still varied the speed/RPM a lot on the 130 mile trip home, mostly interstate but stopped into every rest area. Didn't go over the speed limit 70 (read 90 ).

the manual says to keep below 4500 rpm and 100 mph for 1200 miles.

Here's my new Clubman as I took delivery last Friday!

Finally the end of the road, a happy one at that. I took your advice and had the Dealer fix the car. Turned out really great. The Dealer showered me with all kinds of goodies. JCW steering wheel, JCW shifter ****, JCW parking brake handle, front and rear mud flaps, floor mats. All I can say that it pays to be fair with your Dealer. The Dealer is Vista MINI in Coconut Creek, FL, near Fort Lauderdale, FL. They could not have been nicer. I'm pleased and the car is really great.
