left over 07 or order an 08?

I am about to pull the trigger and need some advice..

The dealer has an 07 MCS with just about the config I am looking for that qualifies for 4.9% financing.

If I order, I would do the Sport with web spokes and the Convenience package.

Either car is about the same price so the big advantage of the 07 is the financing and the instant gratification of having it sooner. The 08 would take some time to get but, would be exactly what I would want.

I am a bit concerned about this being my wifes car and the combination of the 08 Sport package with sport suspension w/ run-flats.

So the big question..

07 with just about what I want and 4.9%?
08 with exactly what I want?

I would probably wait and order the one I want. I've waited for 2 years for my Clubman and the wait is excruciating at times, searching for news of any type on it long before it was released. But the ability to order exactly what I wanted on it has been worth it. I think if I had settled on one of the ones in the showroom (which I also loved!!), I would have always wished I had waited.
The support from others waiting has been fun and watching the progress of your car being made just for you has been worth it. I would have loved 4.9%, but as the car aged I bet I would have been sad to not have the packages I wanted.
Hard decision. I don't envy you that. My baby is in the Atlantic right now and hopefully next month at this time OTTO will be here, but the wait will have been worth it. It has been a fun ride. Can't wait to order another some day

This is a tough decision. The "value" of the 07 for me would be a deciding factor. 4.9% is good--what is the difference at current market rate over the time of the loan. Is the 07 discounted? What is the value to you of almost what you want vs. exactly what you want. I struggled with a similar dilemna prior to my purchase. I ran the configurator many, many times. I played with color combos and various option choices ad nauseum. How much was I willing to pay, what was need vs. want. What could I live with and so on. Then my local (130 miles away) MINI dealer had a deal that I could not pass up(Sept) They had an 07 Cooper with 2100 miles on it. It was driven by a MINIUSA exec and never titled. I paid $4600 less than sticker and the car is certified to 100k. It is BRG/W. My last choice of color. It also has the convenience pkg which I thought was frivolous and way too expensive. I love it. I absolutely love the car, I feel like I got a great bargain and that I made the right choice. The same weekend that I was churning about what to do I sold my 99 BMW 528t. The timing was extraordinarily fortuitous. I hope this helps. Whatever you decide to do will be the right choice

^^^ i agree if you can get a deal like that than its way worth it

but personally i could not imagine not having exactly what i wanted....i almost did this because i was soo impatient and wanted to drive away that day, but instead i held back, ordered exactly what i wanted, and got to go through the process of having my car made specifically for me

Also I would say your better of getting a 08 now that they are out since an 07 (on paper) is 1 year old...i got mine at the end of october so there was no way id wait for an 08, but now i think your better off having the new car for 08 than getting an 07 (again, unless they are giving a great great deal on the 07)

Good luck

YAY! What did you order? Love to see your specs. When I ordered mine I went from Chili Red to Laser Blue to BRG and then back to Laser Blue, and finally Chili Red. Just configured over and over and after I sent the Laser Blue order to my MA I ended up two days later asking him to change it to the Chili Red. (I have a blue BMW and thought a change might be nice.)

The wait is nerve wracking, but still, what other car could you do this with?

Yesterday I got a card from MINI mentioning the impending arrival of the new baby that included a stencil for MINI Parking Only for the garage.

Hardly any of them have the choices a MINI has and the ride is so far superior. I even wrote an article for a magazine about my obsession. Hope to see it out shortly after my car arrives--need the pics.

At least you will have a great support group to follow the process and I bet you'll be sooooo happy the day it arrives. As I've said, my wait will be 25+ months, but it gave me time to have all the accessories ready and waiting for him. (Anticipation! )

Congratulations!!!

Since the car is for your wife the proper thing to do might be to leave her alone with the configurator and when she is finished give your absolute approval to all of her choices. You spoke of being concerned about the 08 sport pkg and sport suspension. I wonder who chose those options. Hmmmmm.

When I was configuring my Clubman my husband insised on the Sport package and suspension. I was hesitant as I didn't like the stiffness of his M3. I much prefer my 330Ci convertible's seats and ride. But he put it in the specs and that's what I'm getting.
I'm not going to take it to a track or do mods on it and I hope it won't be overly stiff for me. I thought the regular Clubman might be ok, but he said it had to be the S. Now I like power to pass things and I know it will do that, but I wish I had a more objective view. I wanted Yellow, but can't get that in the S, so I went for the Chili Red. I love the red, he wanted me to get blue, but hey, I'm paying for it and he can't even drive anymore, so Red it is.

I went with the following config..

Chili Red / white top with white stripes
Leatherette
Anthracite headliner
Convenience Package
Cold Weather Package
Sport Package + web spokes
Limited slip
Brushed Alloy
Xenon headlights

It was a pretty mutual agreement on the config. The only requirement I wanted was the LSD and Sport package. She insisted on a manual trans and she wanted the webspokes. I live in Salt Lake City so the cold weather package was a must and Convenience just made sense. We struggled over the sunroof but, I drive a 2004 Honda s2000 so on those days we really want the open air feeling we can take my car.

She is a hell of a driver and I am a certifiable car nut. We are both really excited for this car. It's going to be a challenge trying to decide which car to the take.

Nice! on the anthracite headline (one of the best interior options IMO) and im glad ur getting the manual trans cuz its soo much fun in this car. And I think skipping the sunroof is a good option because you're eliminating the problem of wind noise and water leaks that some people have experienced.

Oh and take the MINI...good photo op for it

To reinforce your decision;

I made my deposit on August 30th, securing an early December production slot. By the time the order was submitted in November I had tweaked it a couple of times. It was built the first prodiction week for '08s. Now that my MINI is in my garage I am so pleased that I did it this way.

nice config as i'm also a huge fan of the CR/W!

S2k is quite the nice ride, and it'll be tough to choose which one to take out! Enjoy!

I had the same choice as you. After I placed my order, I got impatient and then bought an '07 off the lot. I got 4.9% financing and $1733 off the MSRP. While it had other options I hadn't ordered (leather seats, premium) and I didn't get the Xenon's, I am very happy with the car and the great deal I got.

It hard to know what you really need until you get the Mini. For example, I thought the hi fi was a must have, but the base stereo is fine.
