First MINI post

Greetings all, it's been awhile since I've landed in a little British car forum. I suppose there's the argument that the MINI isn't, and I admit when the new MINI first came out I felt a bit resentful that BMW, or anyone, could rip off (I mean retro) such a cool little car. I have since dropped my attitude, many of them, and am here to learn of the wizardry what is the new MINI.
I've had a few British cars... MGA, MGB Land Rover IIa.
More recently I went on an Italian bent and rebuilt the workings of a 71 Alfa Spider. I'm not sure what has led me towards a MINI, and a newer generation of machine, but I suppose some of it has to do with being less willing to spend time on the shoulder, possibly, and as I imagine many MINI owners feel... the need to have a fun car that fits a smaller footprint.
Anyway, cheers to all. I'm off to wander the archives.
Sam

Welcome Sam!!! Yes, regardless of what many thought about the MINI when it first appeared, it remains a big hit in the UK (MINIs largest market) and even among many of the old-school, big-name Mini enthusiast crowd. Fact is, the car really needed to be updated and that took lots of money which BMW was willing to invest. To their credit, BMW seems very keen to keep in-line w/ the heritage of the car while continuing to let it properly evolve.

Anyway, have fun browsing through NAM...it's one of the most dynamic communities in MINIdom!!

Welome Sam. You're gonna love this experience. First, lurking on this board, second, get to a dealer or car show for some close-up inspection, then, a drive. From there on you're a goner! I've owned several British and German cars and I must say the MINI has been one of my favorites.

Oh, hang on. Can a euro-diesel (BMW?) mate up with the petrol non turbo trans? I'm guessing probably not... and wouldnt be legal in a new car anyway.. so never mind.
Bugger, thought I had a coherent question but no luck.
I'll keep trying.
Cheers,
Sam
