ALL ABOARD! FAUST Departing Southampton 1/15/08 - Arriving NYC 1/24/08

Hello Fellow Faustians!

Just found out I'm booked for the Faust, leaving SH tomorrow on Voyage EA802-FAT. Finally!

If you haven't already, check the sticky at the beginning of this thread to see how to check your MINI status and to check if you are aboard.

If you're riding the Atlantic w/ me, take heart - the beginning of motoring happiness is near! Who's with me?!

Hi Pmello! Welcome aboard! I'll do a little sleuthing to find out, or just ask another NAMer on the Freedom thread.

Today is Bon Voyage Day! Been a long wait. This is a reorder for me.

I think the CS is SLKQ. It shows up on another site as a Swedish WWL cargo ship. AIS site shows arrival today @ 18:30 hours -- not sure if that is GMT or UTC or some other time zone. But ... shows departure tomorrow!

Let me know what you find out.

Check Russr's most recent, and very helpful, reply and post on the Prod wk 2 thread for a screenshot of the Faust.

I'll check in again late tonight.

TK, the arrival time is 18:30 GMT, so that's like 1:30pm EST. I do see that the departure date is tmw., but departure time is TBA. Hopefully it'll leave today.

Russr, I hope so, as well. Now it's really painful watching a green do t move on a screen. Thank you for the help and the screenshot advice. Works perfectly. What is the Freedom's call sign?

Russr, Are you thinking about tinting? At least the rear sides and back? Even though front sides and windshield are illegal in NJ, many production cars in NJ come from the factory w/ a little tint on the driver/passenger windows. Though the MINI has some already, I'm thinking a little more might be passable and might match tinting on the rear windows. Any thoughts? Are you going with the front license holder device?

What the MINI are you talking about? I can't follow how you have determined all this info. I am still "on order", but some day soon it will be built and heading for the port. How do you get all the ship, sailing, and port info?? Please.

TK, I'm still a but unsure about that license plate holder. I'll have to search some threads on that and see how people like it.

Re:Tint, I hadn't thought about getting it done until you brought it up. I thought that NJ mandated it illegal to tint anywhere. If we can't tint the front windows, I'm not sure it's worth tinting just the back and rears since it is a coupe. Where are you planning on getting the tint done?

PS: I see the FAUST has almost hit the docks...soon your MINI will be loaded. Too bad it wasn't ready for the FREEDOM.

Re: tinting, I posted on the NJ thread here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...=1#post1983410

Interesting responses.

Got a lead on an auto glass place from an auto body friend. I'll get the info for you. I was also recommended to somewhere in Somerville. I wouldn't trust just anyone. A friend's husband has tinted the rear three windows of his Mini. I'd like to see that. Like you, I'm not sure how it will look.

Sorry Jeff. Thought I responded. Welcome to the Mini Purgatory Land of interminable waiting and zero patience.

Take a look at the "track your mini" sticky at the beginning of this 1st Gear section. It is a great primer how to get all these strange details. Once your car is thru production, I can almost guarantee the MINI obsessive-compulsive disorder wil set in and you will be driven to understand all these details (or someone else shipping with you will be).

Congrats on your order!

TK, as you've probably seen, the FAUST is scheduled to leave today at 21:30 GMT. So that's around 4:30pm tonight. Looks like the ETA for NYC is still 1/24/08 which is pretty amazing given that it is leaving a day late and has a scheduled stop in Halifax, NS before NYC.

Russr, thanks for the reply. Getting lonely w/ the Faust here. I saw the itinerary on AIS too. WW finally updated the SH departure to show today, rather than yesterday as previously listed. It took until today for that to happen. Thus, I expect WW will adjust (extend) each leg of the journey as the Faust reaches each destination. Given that, I expect a 1-2 day delay until final arrival in NY. Probably closer to 2 days since the Faust isn't leaving till late today, even given the time difference. That likely means arrival on 1/26, not 1/24 as previously listed. 1/26 is a Saturday. That likely means the following full business week, at least, will be spent at VDC. By the time it gets transported and checked over by the dealer, I'm guessing the earliest it will be available is sometime the following business week. I will then be picking up on Saturday, 2/9 at the earliest, as I am not going to take 3-4 hours out during a business day to go and pick it up. So, 3.5 wks out. Time for me to cool my heels. I'm going to go inactive on this post, since it is not very active anyway. I'll just follow along and correspond w/ you and the folks on your Prod Wk 2 thread. Talk to you there. TK over and out on the Faust thread here - for now.

I'm taking myself out of the active NAM posting mode. Practice a little Zen.

TK, the FAUST is a fast ship...faster than the FREEDOM. According to the AIS site, it still has an ETA of 1/23 for Halifax,NS. That is in line with the original schedule, so you're still looking at 1/24 when it hits NYC.

Also, it doesn't take a week to clear the VDC...one to two days unless you're having some stuff installed, but you're not. If the car does indeed hit the port on the 24th, your dealer will probably have the car by the 29th. You could pick it up that Saturday.

See attached.

Russr, Thx again. I have looked at the AIS balloon, as well. By comparing the Halifax ETA in the balloon w/ the WW site, the schedule has already slipped a day at Halifax now, as well. WW still says 1/22 for Halifax (that's consistent w/ the original - now delayed - date of departure from SH of 1/15). AIS now says 1/23 for Halifax. So. it's slipped and will continue to slip regardless of ship speed. A day is a day. So, I'll see you on your thread! Over and out.

Fellow Faust Rider!

Hi All,

Does anyone know how long it takes once the boat is docked in NY? I'm in MA.

I guess they have to sort out the cars and send them in different directions... then the dealer has to do some "stuff" are we talking a week or more?

Thanks!

Hello Speedywifey,

No idea how long it actually takes. If you have no accessories to be installed at the VDC, it is probably five business days at least for it to get unloaded, processed through VDC, loaded, transported and unloaded at your dealer and prepped for delivery. That is what I was told for delivery in NJ, not too far from port.

Your MA should have an idea of real time based on past experience.

Please note the Faust is not scheduled to arrive in NYC till 1/26, a Saturday. So, I doubt the cars will be fully off-loaded till Monday, 1/28.

So, I'm guesstimating the following week for taking delivery myself.

Getting closer

The Faust is steadily moving forward!

I've been watching the progress at http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml
I know it's not totally real time but still exciting to see movement!!

The schedule has been bumped up again by a day to the 27th. *sigh* Very hard to wait but I've been told that the worst part is yet to come, after it's off the boat and before it's at the dealer....

I'm looking forward to the first week of February when I'll finally be cruising in my Mini!!

Hey, here's a tracking tip... once you get close to the US, go to bugmenot.com and search for a login for "aislive.com" use that to login at http://aisfree.aislive.com/, then go to this hidden URL to look for the ship.
