Ditch 06 Accord, Get 03 MCS ?

Hello everyone.

I have 06 Honda Accord SE. It has about 20kmi and had absolutely no problem.

I also have 06 Honda Odyssey. It has about 30k mi and had absolutely no problem.

But that is the problem.

I don't know why and how I ended up with two 06 Hondas. I think my wife, a typical midwestern minivan driving soccer mom of two girls, wanted to have two cars that can haul the whole family at any given time, just in case. But the reality is, she drives the Odyssey all the time and all family trips are done in Odyssey so I hardly ever need to drive my kids in my Accord.

If I sell my Accord now, I can probably fetch ~$18K (especially since I have 100kmi ext warranty on it)

And I found a 2003 MCS with 27k miles, for $16500. $18k should put me in a nice low mile 03-04 MCS, correct?

What I am really concerned of, is the reliability of MCS.

I can live with few hundred dollar repairs here and there occasionally. I understand that these are not Honda/Toyota.

What I am NOT really into, is $1500 repairs happening couple times a year.

I've read stories about people ditching MCS to get into Civic Si. But I've also seen people ditching STi's and EVO's to get into MCS.

What are your thoughts?

Can I buy an extended warranty on Used MINI's???

You can buy an extended warranty on a used MINI that is still under its original factory warranty (4 years, 50K miles). But check with a local dealer on the eligibility of a used MINI for extended warranty before buying. A 2003 MCS is likley already out of warranty and you'll need to look for a 2004 or 2005.

You will probably not have Honda reliability with a MINI, but most of us have had good experiences, but of course, your mileage will vary.

All aspects of your life will improve dramatically upon getting your MINI. Just get it, you won't regret it. Accords are nice cars, but MINI's are truly something special.

I might be the oddball here, but I sure wouldn't swap them out.

Just me though.

I'd go new - you never know how the last owner treated the car. MINIs tend to get driven harder (and modified more) than a Honda. Check out the online configurator (www.miniusa.com) and price a new one built as you want it.

I vote with rhawth. You can get a stripped MC for about the same price as what you're looking at spending. If you just have to have an S I'd hold out for just the right '05 so you'd still have a respectable amount of warranty left. You might get your wife to trade the Odyssey for a clubman when they come out too

I wouldn't say buying a Mini was stupid. You may or may not take a reliability hit - depends on the car (though more mini's seem to have problems than hondas). I will tell you my story (don't click yet - it's the short version). I didn't get a mini back in 2003 because we were expecting and Mini didn't seem to be a 'family' car. I bought a Mercedes C320 instead because it was 'well built' and 'safe'. I sold it after eight months and eight trips to the shop. And since the traction control was malfuctioning and trying to kill me I don't think it was all that safe. When the Cabrio came out, I was hooked. Though I've had some niddling problems, I still recommend it to you.

PS - MY SON LOVES IT!!!! when I thought about selling it, he was all for it - as long as I got another Mini!

Thanks for all of you replied.

I thought about it a lot... I decided to get it.

I'll sell the Accord first, then look for a MCS that is under warranty and under my budget.

This is a good place to do some shopping too. Place a WTB in the market place and keep an eye out there. Anyone that's a regular poster here probably has loved and cared for their car and it's in good shape - except for the occasional race
