Rude!??

Sorry to say...
But there is nothing more crushing than when someone like me...(waiting for their mini)
Has a customer pull into their lot in a sweet mini...And then someone like ME being eager to talk MINI with them, gets the snub!

I mean SERIOUSLY!!!

When someone comments on your car, I don't care what it is...Isn't a thank you or acknowledgement of some sort usually polite??

Or is it just me? And my MOCD??? ~~sigh~~
Crushed

Hmm well there goes my idea. I don't know what to tell you other than "MOST" people you come to know thru your MINI will be very nice and like to talk.

Sad to say that the folks who post on these boards and are passionate about these cars seem to be the exception rather than the rule nowadays. It was very different back in 02 when I got mine (the 172nd from my dealer.........got the tee shirt!)

+1.

I have yet to get a wave or a headlamp flash back from an R56. But then, not many R50/53s are doing it anymore either.

You can tell them when your driving and coming upon them, no decals anywhere, both hands clutched tightly to the wheel and no SMILE, wtf, why did they buy a MINI. You toot your horn and wave and they look at you like your from outter space.
Oh well, just know there are alot of out here and we love to talk MINI!

This is well said.

With 200K cars on the road, I would bet the VAST majority view them as just transportation.

Dont get discouraged. Maybe the person had a bad day

It boggles my mind that someone would buy such a fun car and NOT have fun with it and other MINI folks!!! "Them" should buy Saturns!!!

Hey I am on R56 driver and I wave all the time. I have yet to get a wave back R56 or R53. I just dropped my MINI off at South Bay to get a tire replaced today. The MA's there werw all talking shop, and those that I didn't speak with remembered me and wondered why I was in so soon after I picked up my car. I guess having a mohawk helps with recognition, haha.

I've had a rash of wave-backs in the last week. Rather untypical, but refreshing.

As for the decals, its fun to watch the people behind me looking, pointing, and smiling. Guess the decals are as entertaining for them as they are for me.

I got my first wave as a MINI owner last week while in Columbus. The awesome thing? he waved first! It made me smile for about an hour afterwards lol. Unfortunately back in WV, I have yet to receive a wave, but to be fair...the only MINIs i have seen are too far away to acknowledge.

yeah i face the same problems... sometimes i just get excited when i see another coop in the street even my friends.. but sometimes people in mini coops dodnt even look at you... or say hi.. i waved couple of times but they just ignored... i think they consider their mini coops as a normal car which takes them from A to B!! its a MINI!!

I was snubbed too! I was at the post office and a min was next to me. When the guy was getting in I said something like " I love your mini". He said " ya I know" and got in. He said it in a kinda rude way. LOL Oh well.

Thinking about this thread last night as my wife, the kids and I were driving around Fort Collins. Had a few people yell, "Hey, Nice little car!" Made extra effort to wave back and say thanks.

I have only seen 2 other MINIs since I have been here in Lauisiana, both waved.

I do get complimented on my Go-kart quite often though

I thought we should have a sort of Mini Manners class as MITM this year. A sort of communications tutorial for Mini owners that we could pass on to Mini and ask them to include in future Owner's Manual. Teaching the secret signal (handshake won't really work, of course) of Mini owers that would really confuse SUV drivers, and create giggles galore for the rest of us. We could assign the wiggling thumbs-up a particular name to reflect a mood, a specific blinker and light sequence (our own Morse code) that would subliminally engage normally unfriendly Mini owners, and/or explain that dog drool is just part of the Mini-experience (I was recently told that my car would look really nice if the dog drool on the passenger side wasn't so obvious! A general wave could suffice as a, "Yeah, I see you. Hi. Not in the mood to chat as I've got to quickly get to the nearest bathroom." A static thumbs up: "Cool car! Hope to see you around. Motoring on!". Wiggling thumb: "SWEET ride! Let's chat at the next non-Starbucks coffee shop/neighborhood watering hole." Two blinks left, followed by two-blinks right: " You're dress/coat tail/purse/dog lease is caught in the door." As we Mini-enthusiasts, we have no need for the middle finger but do need a way to express occasional other-driver frustration, we could borrow the 'hang-ten' surfer thumb and pinky as a way to vent, confuse the other driver, and generally entertain ourselves!! My over-caffeniated self is now going to go weed my garden! Ride safe!

I am in the "US" category. I have found a lot of mini owners are just not friendly, but the mini US group are the ones that will talk your ear off.

I'm a firm believer in just being friendly. I order my personalized plates last week--it says wave back! Will post a pic when it comes in. So now every time I see a mini and they dont wave, I will get in front of them! haha
