Hi yall! Greetings from Florida.
Well here's my first post and hoping to become a MC owner soon.
I am currently looking at used MC 02-04's, and was wondering if anyone bought an extended warranty from Warranty Direct and then had a CVT or 5 speed failure. Was the tranny fix picked up by Warranty Direct?
Do we have many CVTs and 70k plus mileage members here?
Are the CVT or the 5 speeds more prone to failure in the early MCs?
If there was to be an issue with the 5 speed would it have broken down by the time the odometer reached 40k? Is the 5 speed failure anywhere near as expensive as the CVT replacement?
Thanks in advance for any insight.
ps. are the AC's strong in the MCs? Its hot down here in FL!

HI, and welcome! I have had no problems with my '02s 6 speed manual. It has 42,000 miles on it. Dont really know much about automatics, just from my mechanic husbands experience. For the most part newer cars will go 125,000 miles or more (if taken care of) on an automatic tranny. The other car I have is a Geo Tracker with 245,000 miles on it. We re-painted it at 160,000 miles, so replaced the clutch at that time. There was little wear in it. I think it really depends on how you drive and how you maintain. We have purchased cars with 60,000 miles on them, and had to replace transmissions of either kind. Good luck in your search for the right car. If you conduct a search on this site for specifics on the different transmissions, and their respective pros and cons, I'm sure you will learn quite a bit.

Not sure where you are in Florida, but there are a few dealers that have new 2006's models MC and MCS left at great deals. I know as of two days ago Tampa/St Pete had six of them left--told me the MC would be around 18k, and Braman Mini of West Palm Beach has one MC. Dealer in Jacksonville did have a few a few weeks back but not sure about now. I just got a new 2006 from West Palm Beach and it was a great experience...nice people, good deal, and they went above and beyond to help me out in the finance department.
If you are financing, a new 2006 might work out better because of the interest rates, and you will also have 3 years of free service and full 4 year warranty.
