Hello from the Netherlands

Hi everybody,

after a bunch of reading, i decided to join the club to give my 2 cents now and then !

I'm from the Netherlands, you all probably know us from the red light district, free drug policy and cheese a country in between England and Germany, the last you guys quite often mistake with us Dutch guys, as much as comparing America with Canada, we also feel offended by that

Just bought a Mini Cooper S 2 months ago, after selling my beloved Impreza GTT MY 99 Star edition, with a 2.0l turbo engine, slightly tuned to 270bhp !

Can't really compare the Mini to the Subaru with overall power but it cut's corners like a knife through butter

It's still standard, but that will change soon......real soon

Will post pics asap.

Greetz Barry

Welcome Mini Phantom. I lived in Belgium and did work in Maastricht and have good friends in Amsterdam. Also, here in San Antonio a member of our NBA team, the Spurs, is from the Netherlands - Fransisco Elson. He doesn't look Dutch, but plays pretty good basketball!

Did you work at the Airport ?
And how do we Dutch look then , read this below and you'll agree we look much alike hahahaha

All Americans decend from country's on the other side of the world, a lot of settlers who set foot on the US are, the Dutch, Spanjards, English, French, Belgium, Germans, Italians.

A large portion of the eastern U.S., stretching from New Jersey and Delaware through New York and from Connecticut and Long Island to central eastern Pennsylvania, was settled by the Dutch in the early-1600s. The area was once known as New Netherland, and many places--Schuylkill, Catskill, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Harlem, Wall Street, Coney Island, to name but a few---trace their names from this Dutch period. Over the next two centuries, several waves of Dutch emigrants settled in the United States and, today, most Dutch-Americans are concentrated in ten states: New York, Michigan, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Washington, Texas, Ohio and Illinois.
Linked by traditions of intellectual and democratic freedom, the Netherlands became the second country in the world to establish formal diplomatic relations with the United States in 1782. These relations have never been interrupted, and thus the Netherlands can boast the world's longest record of continuous friendly relations with the U.S. Benjamin Franklin once wrote: "In love of liberty and in the defense of it, Holland has been our example."

For example Brooklyn = from the dutch city Breukelen
Harlem = the city Haarlem
New york was once New Amsterdam

So much of getting to now the Dutch !

@ 4xAAA
yes we put our fingers in the dikes, but we prefer straight girls
But serious that's some history huh

@moodylewdd

Luke I kinda liked the dark-side, but the woman like the light-side of the force more so that convinced me to come back

Love the color of your ride, it would have been the electric blue or my color,but ran into mine first so bought this one

Thanks all for posting, already feel at home, love to visit NYC again some time, been there on holiday 8 times and once to Florida ! but that was 15 years ago the last time

Felt like "Hunny I Shrunk the kids", remembering the first time I came over and went to a supermarket everything was double the package size as we had back then
The supermarket was triple the size of our biggest toystore so it was like kiddy heaven hehehehehehe

Loved it and want to go back for sure !!

Maybe some day when i go back, some of us can meet up and cruise !!

Imposter! There ARE no corners in Nederland! Oh, wait, I mean there are no hills. Ok, just one, but you have to drive to Maastricht to find it!

Hoe gaat het met je?
Ik woont op Utrecht voor negen mand (I think that's right...)

Francisco Elson is black and 7 feet (213 cm) tall . I picture most Dutch not quite so tall. He does speak 5 languages fluently, which is pretty typical!

Greetings Barry from Ohio. I have an office in Amstelveen and usually stay in the Amsterdam Hilton when there. I am so hooked on stroopwaffles.

In deed we have corners but not much where i'm living, more in the country side, and no hills maastricht is pretty far away to drive but they do have the best driving places to do some tours
Met mij gaat het goed en met jou ?
voor iemand die pas 9 maanden in nederland woont, gaat het praten zeer goed

Aaaah yes that doesn't represent the dutch, most of us are not that tall, usually between 180-200cm tall and pretty white, with some exeptions like our 2 time K1 Champ Semmy Schilt who is really tall and kicks ***,literally
But we know are languages, usually 3 languages dutch, english and german and some french or Spanish as well !

@moreorless
I live near Amstelveen, and go shopping there now and then, what to you do for a living ? Stroopwafels are pretty good, but cost you your teeth

@Trinity07
German and welsh/irish huh, seems your ancestors skipped the netherlands, must be for a reason

@Billie_morini

Hey Barry,
parle vous anglais?

Oh wait, that's right. I don't know any other languages. And that's french or spanish or something like that. Well welcome to NAM.

We'd still like to see some photos of your car. If you don't have photos ready, give us some details of our car. Also, what are you planning on doing?

I'm rather new to the modding game and I have found lots of ideas here. My first recommended Mod is a Cold Air Intake. Wow!
Every other engine performance mod will require it for the most part from what I can tell.

Anyway, have fun.

Welcome to NAM. Just finished reading a 1000 page history of the Dutch Republic - it left me with a huge respect for your country. Unfortunately, the only time I was ever there was in the Amsterdam airport on the way to Ukraine to adopt my youngest daughter.

Here's some pics i promised,

The car had 57.000km on it when i bought it about a month ago, it was originally from Germany MY2002 and 2 years later was imported to Holland, i bought it at a BMW dealer !

No damage, only some paint chips here and there, even on the door !?

I was used to a 270bhp Impreza so there's a lot of things on my wishlist, first up will probably be a pulley install, cold air intake, something of around 220 bhp for now would be enough

Pretty impresed with the handling of the car, and don't think i will tamper with it, appart from some strutbraces front and back, and maybe some brake upgrades !

@techguru
Parle vous anglais, yes I speak english hahahaha
It's french by the way, good one
Going for the air intake is a nice start, if you really want to have some extra hp go for the pulley first, that will give you more charger boost, this you will feel the most, then get the intake, you will feel more from this mod after the pulley install than before

@davavd
1000 pages I never read that many pages about our history :impatient does this have to do with you your ancestors because your name is quite dutch, it's written in old style dutch !
New style would be Dirk Adriaan van Ameiden/Ameijden or Amijden van Duim !! last name Duym is thumb
If you read so much it's a must to visit !!

I just found this about the Netherlands.

My daughter lives in Holland, Hilversum. My son-n-laws parents live in Dalfsen. Dalfsen is a lovely town and they are lovely people.
