1st Post - Time for new shoes!

Hello everyone,

This is my first post to this forum. My '02 needs new shoes and I'm requesting your collective wisdom. Currently, my ChiliMINI is wearing Michelin Pilot PS2's and I'm considering three new alternatives.

Do any of you have experience with Goodyear F1 GS-D3's, or Yokohama Advan A048's or Falken Azenis RT-615's?

The MINI is not a daily driver. I drive it a couple of days during the week, on spirited weekend rides/club rides, ocassional track days, and I'm looking into autocrossing. The new tire size will be 215/45-17 (PS2's do not come in that size). The car's engine, suspension, and brakes are all well modified. I live/drive in Northern Calif, so snow is not an issue, but some rainy weather is inevitable. Performance is more important to me than comfort or wear.

Any feedback is welcome! Thanks!

I also run 215-45-17. I was going to get Yokahama AVS ES100 ($97 at Tire Rack) but they ran a sale on the Goodyear F1-GS-D3's for $88 so I went with them. Once I got used to the greater sidewall flex (compared to a RF) I have been happy with the Goodyear's but had they not been on sale I would have gotten the Yokahamas as I have also heard good things about them

Go with the Falkens. Good price and GREAT handling.

Thanks for the input.
What's your style of driving with the Goodyears and with the Falkens?

I don't do any racing. I just drive spiritedly. I like to go hard & stop hard & I have never been able to get my Goodyears to squeal in a corner

I've got the Goodyears on my 930 and my Wife's WRX. Awesome tire. One of the best I've ever driven in the rain. I've heard the Avenis aren't so hot in the rain, but have no personal experience.

Both of us are 'spirited' drivers and I race SCCA. My wife's done driving schools. Neither of us are stupid on the street, but we're not slo.

I'm putting the Goodyears on my MCS if it ever gets on a boat.......

O2Chilimini and Bamatt,

What wheels are you running those 215/45-17's?

Thanks,

Joey

I've heard the same about the Goodyears too. I think the Falken and the Yoko's are more for dedicated track use. I know the Lotus Elise comes equipped with the Yoko's.

Thanks for the input!

I'm mounting them on Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 rims sized 17x7. They are nice rims, light (17.2 lbs), and most importantly they fit over the Brembo GT 320 brake kit.

At first I had them on the OEM 17X7.5 wheels (are they called bullets?) See my siggy cartoon for a likeness of them. I just recently had the Goodyears mounted on 17X7, Tenzo DC-5 Version 2 wheels

p.s... & the Goodyears have a really cool looking tread pattern

My 02 MC uses Goodyears. I'm going to replace them before this winter with Goodyears again.
