Did you switched to winter tires in NE?

Just as a curiosity, how many of you already switched to winter tires this year in northeast area? specifically NY/NJ?

I got caught once, never again. I change to winters around Guy Fawkes night (Nov 5th) and back to summers as a birthday present to myself in Early April. Change the mats between rubber and carpet at the same time.

We live in Northern New Jersey, and we have already switched over to our Michelin Xice3's, despite that we run all season tires the rest of the year.

I realize that most people in our area use all season tires, and do not switch to winter tires, but we frequently go to Northern New England to ski. On top of that, my thinking is that if the winter tires keep us out of just one accident, or keep us from getting stuck just once, they have probably paid for themselves.

My opinion is that if anyone tells you that there is not a substantial difference with winter tires versus all season tires in terms of snow and ice traction and braking, they simply have not experienced just how good the newest and best winter tires are when you drive them back with all season tires in the same conditions.

No doubt someone will chime in and tell us that they have used all season tires, or even summer tires, with no problems, and my response would be either they just have not seen extreme winter conditions, or they have just been lucky.

I would also point out that based on personal experience summer tires really do begin to lose their dry road grip below 40°, and it's especially noticeable before the tires are warmed up.

There really is more to this issue than just the tire manufacturers trying to get you to buy an extra set of tires.

Anyone who runs summer tires year round north of the VA southern state line is a moron.

Tomorrow or Friday. We have a spare car at home so it's no panic. I push it to the limit. It did back fire on me the year it snowed on Halloween. I had to catch a ride home that day.

I have.e the snows. Dunlop d4's but. I was hoping to snag a cheap set of wheels but no luck. I'll have to mount them on my challenge wheels.

Agreed! If you slide into me while running inappropriate rubber there will be no end to my vengeance!

Mounted my Tirerack Pkg.-16 inch Blizzak WS80 on MSW alloys last week. We recieved 10 inches of snow yesterday, mostly wet slushy stuff on the road,no hardpack and tires were great. Snows are a must in these parts of New York. Happy Thanksgiving, hope everyone got to where they were going safely.

I'm in boston. I snowed (but didn't stick) a few weeks ago and I've only spent one winter here, expecting a particularly crappy winter I shotgunned and put the tires on the next day.

sacandagadano - I recognize that name. Not too far from me.
I put my snows on Tuesday in anticipation of snow on Wednesday. I thought that the wear bars on my all seasons won't work well in the snow . I have RFTs for snows. Not a bad ride and saved my butt from freezing last winter when I picked up a nail up in January at Stowe VT. Just had to pump it up when the warning light came on.

Put the winter wheels and tires on both Minis 3 weeks ago. Had a nice warm day,so I did it then rather than do it in the cold. I live in SE Ct.
Blizzaks for the JCW, and Winter Sport 3D's for the Cooper S.

I'll try not to hit anyone this winter.

My 1st year in the mini driving in winter conditions. Though I have new all season tires on I'm looking to pick up winter tires just in case.
