Air vent stops and starts and thermostat dial flashes
Hi, I need some assistance in knowing what needs to be repaired or replaced on my 2003 mini.
About 2 months ago while I was driving I had the heat on high and the air vents would stop pushing out hot hair for a split second and then resume. This went on for about a week and then the thermostat dial started flashing and everything stopped working.
I made an appointment with my mechanic two days later, and of course the vents worked like they had just come off the assembly line. He told me to come back when it happened again.
Today it happened again, but this time I just had the vent on. It first stopped pushing out air for a split second, and then resumed. By the time I got home the thermostat dial was flashing again.
Any help with this would be appreciated!

A mechanic with the right tools can pull BODY CODES from the computer.....even if it is not currently doing it....these codes are different from odb2 codes, even though they are accessed from the same port...often with a high end scan tool....it is likrly there are faults recorded...
Some consumer grade items CAN get some of this info now...
But you best bet IMO is find a shop that can get the info....

Thank you ZippyNH. I will check back with my mechanic to see if this is something he can do. He spent about 10 minutes looking under the glove box area and the rest of the dash area. I should mention this is not a MINI dealer, but a good garage that has done all the parts replacement for me on this car.
