This is strange ..

Hello everyone!

I ordered an air filter from MANN, and received the wrong part, even though the part number for my MINI appears to be correct.

Here's my dilemma.

engine.JPG is a picture of my engine. 1.6 NON-Turbo, Manual Transmission
Image 01: Is the filter for the automatic version, which appears to match
Image 02: Is the part I received for my manual transmission and doesn't appear to be a match (seems long)

Is there a reason why my MINI appears to have the automatic air-filter box despite being manual shift?

I'm really confused here, and can't figure out what part number to order.

Can someone help shed some light on this?

Regards,
David

Now you know WHY vendors do so well selling mini parts....
Most online parts places do a terrible job keeping mini parts such as auto vs manual vs s vs non-s vs n14 vs n18 vs n12vs n16 and warm weather vs cold weather filter(yes there is a difference based on what the factory installed.
But one huge question....why are you buying a new filter?!
Your car is new....you have 3 years of free bumper to bumper parts like filters and wiper blades?!!
Return it....worry about it in 3 years...
P.S. Enjoy your car...the stock filter is good for a LONG TIME....even if you change it a bit early.... You still have SEVERAL OIL CHANGES to go!!!

In Europe the MINI (Non S ) engine (2007+) N12 & N16 has two different air filters, one for the manual and one for the automatics.

In the US we just have one type airbox for both. Lots of sites have it wrong.

We have it here> follow part # 13717561235 We have Mann, MINI, AFE, and K&N.

Thanks Zippy ( I named my car after you BTW).

I was considering going with the oil-less performance (size-for-size) filter replacement. Like the K&N but WITHOUT the oil. However, at almost 60+ dollars I'm hearing mixed reviews about them. Was hoping to get more gas mileage and pep but some say there's no change or it may actually mess with the computer because if the increased airflow. :(

Any advice/personal experience on those products anyone?

I have always liked the K&N, a gentle hand on the oiling is all that is needed for excellent results using the can spray version that has been around for almost 20 years. This takes away whatever internet rumors still persist about MAF contamination, codes, etc that may or may not have happened from the ancient squirt bottle method of application. I live in a hot, dry, dusty as heck environment and these K&N's do the job the best, IMHO. There is a slight increase in intake noise, which can indicate higher airflow, but modern systems adapt quickly without throwing codes - the amount of change is less than typically experienced in high altitude driving, for instance, which is where I notice the greatest difference on my Justa with these air filters over stock.

Foam? Not much opinion, fine for dirt bikes on race day, a pain to live with in that environment over the long run if exposed which would not be the case on your Mini.

Oh, and lots of sites have the Justa Cooper manual trans air filter part number wrong, many of them. I had to order twice as well, should have just ordered from ECS the first time and saved myself the aggro

One tip...
If you buy a K&N filter, it comes pre-oiled....
So for about 60,000 miles in most locations (unless you live in the desert) you don't have to worry about cleaning and reoiling it.
A k&n filter, or a nano filter (amsols name for an oil free one) can save you $....
But you will not save $ on fuel...modern computer controlled cars adjust the mixture based on airflow...so you MIGHT flow more air, leading to more power, which will mean less mpg...but a filter would only add or subtract a FRACTION of a HP...so no functional change in HP...but the sound or just good feeling about doing something you hope is good for the car is more!!
Thanks for the naming of the car, Zippy has a younger sibling now!!

How much sooner we talking? Today is Tuesday, and I doubt I'll have it in hand by Saturday? (Lehigh Acres, Florida)

Thanks for asking. Currently about 8 days on the Pro Dry S and 10 on the Pro 5 R . They are very popular. If you want the K&N its much sooner. If you want to wait the aFe will be a bit longer. At least you know you have the correct filters now for your MINI.

We have the cleaners in stock:

Here is the Pro R Restore kit:
