I just don't like the squared off back on a coupe and the after thought roof IMO uuuggghhh.

More pics here:http://www.motoringfile.com/2011/02/...ed/#more-15240

I think I like the design. I do like the thought of how the thing will drive. But i do fear that having a trunk will open the MINI up to a lot more ricey modifications.

they need to make the rear taillights smaller. Looks un-proportional IMO

I love it though, its a perfect cross between an Audi TT and Mini. if i dont decide to buy out my lease this is what i have my eyes set on.

Door windows remind me of a Miata. I agree with needing smaller tail lights with this design, they seem to overwhelm the rear of the car. With the right tail lights and spoiler it might be a winner although the thing I really like about my MINI is the hatchback, lots of room in a small car. Can't haul much in a MINI with a trunk. Where would my dog ride?

It seems to have an auto pop-up spoiler on the boot lid. I agree that the lights seem to overwhelm the back. I'd like to see it in person before I make any judgements.

Being a cabrio person, I'd have to wait till next year for the roadster version.

Well, I like it. I had to look at it for awhile since the camo kind of throws my eye off. I'm sure they will tweak a few things, like maybe the tail lights, but I don't mind them the way they are.
I'd like to see a shot from the front, though.

the yellow pattern really makes it hard to see the lines clearly. I have seen much better pics in my MC2 magazine. The coupe was very nice looking in those MC2 shots, IMO.

I love the idea of the coupe, but if they don't do something about that "bad toupee" roof, I'm not interested.

I got the impression from Vinny Kung(MINI USA) at MTTS in San Francisco, the rear end would have a different look.I was expressing my opinion about how I disliked the squared appearance, when he informed me it wasn't the final shape.I hope this is true.Q

after seeing this, and the Countryman, I'm convinced the whole line is heading into the design crapper. Yeccch.

I don't get it? Edmunds is saying "spy photos", but as they say in the article, MINI was showing this at the Auto shows over a year ago, along with the Roadster version and BMW announced shortly after that it was going into production basically as is.

Well, I'm guessing the one at the Auto shows was a concept car. Now that they are actually going into production it's another game?

This.

Although the Countryman isn't nearly as bad as the coupe / roadster. These things are abominations.

I dont care for the coupe, (It's the whole roofline, it SUCKS IMHO!) but the roadster in the last picture looks sweet.

I think it is a little too close to the current cabrio though for both drop tops to make it.

MINI shuld have changed the front sheet metal a little IMO, maby just stretch the front out about 4 inches (Wheelbase and all) and give it a little more slope.

Its going to be awesome. It looks just like the concept one if you look closely, and with a JCW kit and a drop itll be pure awesome

I agree, something like this.

And I wonder what those guys driving them around Oxford do if you go up and ask them about it. I can see answers like "What MINI? this is a Citreon."

With all the pics that I have seen of the two of them over the last year or so, the roadster is the hot one.

In one of the press releases from MINI, they said that the roof on the coupe was intentionally meant to look like a ball cap on backwards (???? hey, who am I to argue with these car designers, they know what they're doing.......right???? )

I can't imagine it will perform, materially, better than the current Cooper hatch. So, why would someone want to pay more (you know it will cost more than the current Cooper hatch) for dramatically less utility?

Should be lighter and MINI could amp up its performance aspects, especially if they introduce a more stripped down "track" edition.

But your question is more akin to "Why would someone buy a roadster?"
