I think I like the design. I do like the thought of how the thing will drive. But i do fear that having a trunk will open the MINI up to a lot more ricey modifications.

Door windows remind me of a Miata. I agree with needing smaller tail lights with this design, they seem to overwhelm the rear of the car. With the right tail lights and spoiler it might be a winner although the thing I really like about my MINI is the hatchback, lots of room in a small car. Can't haul much in a MINI with a trunk. Where would my dog ride?

Pop Up Spoiler
Being a cabrio person, I'd have to wait till next year for the roadster version.

I dont care for the coupe, (It's the whole roofline, it SUCKS IMHO!) but the roadster in the last picture looks sweet.
I think it is a little too close to the current cabrio though for both drop tops to make it.
MINI shuld have changed the front sheet metal a little IMO, maby just stretch the front out about 4 inches (Wheelbase and all) and give it a little more slope.

And I wonder what those guys driving them around Oxford do if you go up and ask them about it. I can see answers like "What MINI? this is a Citreon."

With all the pics that I have seen of the two of them over the last year or so, the roadster is the hot one.
In one of the press releases from MINI, they said that the roof on the coupe was intentionally meant to look like a ball cap on backwards (???? hey, who am I to argue with these car designers, they know what they're doing.......right???? )

But your question is more akin to "Why would someone buy a roadster?"
