Thoughts on 215/40/18 Non-RF on a OEM Rim?

Does it work? Any issues? Jose

215/40-18 should be fine on an OEM wheel. I’m running 215/45-17 on OEM 17” wheels
without issue. I’ve heard that 225 can lead to rubbing in the front, so I wouldn’t go any wider than 215, and stick to the factory sidewall ratio as you’ve suggested.

Just a word of caution. Do your research on tire width ... Tire Rack is an excellent source. I found that the Continental ExtremeContact Sport rubbed slightly on the front struts. When I checked the spects, they were just slightly wider than most of the other tires of the same size. My experience is that the 215 width will probably fit, but not necessarily all brands and models.

So I decided to go with the New MICHELIN PILOT SPORT AS4 215/40ZR18 89Y XL BSW UHP ALL SEASON TIRE. So far I’m really happy with the quietness and the handling. When I went to a new set of OEM Mini JCW Wheel/Tire setup, the Pirelli’s really are an amazing piece of crap! In the 3k miles I put on them I replaced 2 due to bubbles and found an additional 6 more bubbles on the inner side walls of them. No more runflats for me, I’ll get the emergency roadside kit and move forward. I’ll put on my winter set next weekend.
