QUESTION
QUESTION
Hello. I am going to be selling some 16" S-Winders on 195/55-R16 Dunlop SP Sport 01s as soon as my wheels come in and I was wondering HOW people are shipping them... will I need to find boxes to put each tire/wheel in? If so, where is the best place to find boxes?
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question - I have never sold anything on the web, much less shipped anything anywhere...
Thanks.
PS - I will be asking $650.00 for the whole set (w/ 3500 miles on them) and shipping from 87501.

D3mON is corect, and you don't really need boxes as the tires/wheels are heavy enough to crush 'em up some. Adding just a bit:
If shipping wheels with tires on them, the tire tread and sidewall can be exposed but the wheel face (and to an extent the back) needs protection. I've always used a double layer of stiff currogated on the wheel face, single layer on the back, and wrap radially (criss-cross on the diameter). It doesn't hurt to put a couple strips around the circumference and put an address label there, since that's the side the delivery guy is going to see. Cutting a handle-hole in the back is a nice gesture since these are heavy. Wrap each wheel/tire combination separately, at 44lb apiece they get a little cumbersome if wrapped in pairs.
If shipping wheels alone, definitely box them and protect the rims themselves by ALSO putting an extra layer of currogated over the wheel face . The best wrap job I received actually used foam pipe insulation on the rim bead areas, then boxed the wheels. Don't put tape over the wheel face, it can be a bear to remove.
If shipping tires alone, you can ship pairs by wrapping them together and radially taping (probably the cheapest way to go). Again, circumferential tape with the label. No need for the currogated discs, as the shipping guys like having a place to grab 'em.

Another option is a freight shipper. I had some wheels (for another vehicle) shipped on a pallet. The seller delivered them to the freight shippers location in his city and they placed them on a pallet and shrink wrapped them up tight. They shipped them ground and I had them two days later (about 1,000 miles away). The cost was cheaper than UPS or FedEx ground. The seller did put cardboard over the wheels to protect them but I don't think it was necessary. The shipper I used was USF Reddaway.
Thanks again, everyone.
I will do as recommended and ship each tire/wheel combo sandwiched between cardboard circles - two on the wheel side.
Stayed tuned for the FS post w/ pics and info...
