I've talked about this before, but it bears repeating. The Peake Research MINI Scan Tool is SO good, and SO easy to use, every R50/R53 MINI owner (that's 2002-06 cars, if you didn't know) needs one of these. We use it all the time in our own shop. It's that useful!
It's simple to use -- plug in to the OBD-II port and it'll tell you what "Check Engine" codes (also known as DTCs, for Diagnostic Trouble Codes) your car has. The included guide tells you what the codes mean. Push a button to clear the codes. It can also reset your oil change and service interval lights.
It's great, really. Get one, and you'll be happy you did.
