Savannah
Savannah
My son-in-law is stationed at Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah. He's doing his Ranger thing so I went up to visit my daughter and took a few pictures of my visit. I thought this one was a good one to share. It's taken just above the River walk in downtown. Such a pretty city, with lots of picture possibilities.

Savannah is gorgeous... I was there a few weeks ago, and took about a hundred photos, but I wasn't happy with most of them. I was just there for a day, but I could easily spend a week there. I was amazed that, as I was walking around the historic district, I barely saw anyone, but when we went down to River Street for lunch, you could hardly walk down the sidwalk, it was so packed. All the tourists were crammed into this one strip, which had all of the requisite T-shirt stores, ice cream parlors, souvenir shops, and guided bus tour kiosks. Seems like most people just head there, and then take a bus tour if they want to see the rest of the city. It's a shame, because it's a fabulous walking city. I can't wait to return someday.
Nice MINI shot!

If I'm not mistaken, that's one of the old brick paved parking lots off Bay Street...?
I'm looking forward to heading back down there for the first time since I graduated from school down there three years ago, in a couple weeks here. Savannah is a gorgeous town though...and I imagine all those squares would be quite fun to zip around in a MINI
If any of you get a chance to go down, I'd recommend taking the drive out to Tybee Island, it's a nice little span of highway to cruise. And if you're food lovers, Savannah has some great restaurants to hit up. If you like pizza, hit Vinny Van Gogh-Go's in the City Market - it's a total dive, but the pizza is amazing. There are tons of great restaurants/bars down on River Street, and all throughout downtown Savannah for that matter.

Very nice MINI shot! Savannah is at the top of my list of places to visit, for sure! I will stay off that touristy street that Chris mentioned, and try to get the true flavor of the town by motoring off the beaten path. Hopefully, Savannah will be part of my 2006 springtime roadtrip!Clover

The picture was taken right off of E Bay St. Or Ebay as I call it.

Tybee is a great drive. The better half and I went out there the last time we were up (about 3 weeks ago). Visited the lighthouse while there.
We usually eat breakfast at a place on Albacorn, close to town. Can't rememebr the name but my daughter takes us there.
Can't wait, she is coming to visit tomorrow PM for a few days. Since hubby is off doing his Ranger thing, she is lonely and coming to visit 'ole' dad.

Never been to Lady & Sons but have seen her show and know where the place is. Someday we will make it to her place. Being only about 4 1/2 - 5 hr away from Orlando it a nice 'Mini' drive. We did eat dinner the last time Ben was in town at the Pirates House. Good food and the house has lots of history. Another place that we ate once was Mary's Seafood. I think it's on 204. Good food.
I have a lot of pictures we took of the old cementary down along some water where the famous musician is buried, what is his name? Senior moment...... Anyway, creepy place, when the fog hangs around the old trees.
Yeah, those old cemetaries in Savannah are creepy, especially Bonaventure when dusk starts creeping in...really give you the *******.
Yeah, I'd definitely take more road trips to Savannah if I weren't 14-hours away
. Just a great town to visit.
The Pirate House is a neat place. Supposedly haunted, like just about half of everything in Savannah. Apparently, it's regarded as the third most haunted city in the U.S., behind only Salem, MA and New Orleans. Hell, the dorm some friends of mine lived in was supposedly haunted, and two of them swear they saw something walking thru their dorm room one night

If ya go to Lady and Sons, be sure to go EARLY. The line is outrageous on the weekend. I recommend Clary's, and has died down a little since the book.
Love, Love, Love Savannah and can't wait for my return trip. Usually try to make an annual trip and got to squeeze in two trips so far this year!
Grew up in Athens, but nothing beats this beautiful town.
