Melted Tires?

I have noticed that my rear tires get a build-up of residual rubber after track events. It almost looks as if the rubber was melted and was rolled over to form veins adjacent to the grooved in my tires. This used to happen when I ran Kumho SPT street tires (Thanks Tire Rack) . But it also is happening to my R-Compound tires. I have dealt with this problem by rotating the tires and adjusting the pressure between race days. Most of the time, I can burn off the excess rubber after a few laps on the front of the car. I was wondering if anyone else has this issue on their rear tire and will an increase in tire pressure minimizes or eliminates this effect?

Thanks for any ideas,
DJDport

Yes, this happens to my rear tires all the time at autocross and track events.
Doesn't matter whick R compounds, they all can do it. Doesn't happen as much to me with street rubber but I hardly run that on the track.

Rubber melts and falls off other cars and you come by with a hot sticky rear tire and pick up everything.

Don't worry just remove the wheels and pick off the extra rubber with a pliers or something. I tear it off when I clean up my tires before storing them each session.

I don't usually find that any tire pressure change really does much good for picking up any more or less rubber. Driving in dirty areas doesn't help, drive the least you can when returning to the pit area where your stuff is would help to reduce some rubber you pick up.

If your tires are colder or cooled off then they are less likely to pick up stuff. Running your tires a little to knock off excess stuff is ok. Fronts knock off stuff easily due to steering on the fronts so usually I have very little to clean off in front.

Thanks! I will stay on line during the cool-down lap. DJD
