When is the next good deal on 215/45/17 tires coming out?

I spent time researching old posts on 215 45 17 tires. I see 4-6 months ago that Goodyear F1's were $88. Now they are $145. What is up with that?

Alex, When is the next good deal coming out?

It's probably supply and demand.

Too many tires- not enough room to store them.
Time for a sale.

Missed the sale?
Now pay normal prices- it's even worse if you buy at a retail store.
Those are good tires.

I paid $195 each a few years ago for Potenza S-03 tires in the same size.
Prices vary from year to year.

I think the 88 ones were made in Asia somewhere, I know they were a lower load range. The higher ones were made in Europe and higher load range. I'm sure Alex will clarify.

Yikes!

Made in Asia?

Cheap sale indeed.

The country where it is made is stamped clearly on the tire sidewall.

correct. The more expensive were German made and had the XL load rating (the ones currently for sale today)

German made, Asia made? Geez. I was selecting the Goodyears because I thought they were US made. Can't I buy anything for this car made in the US?

The Continental ContiExtreme Contact AS tires I have on for winter are U.S. made. I'm going with the Goodyear's for summer tires though.

I am in for two sets if we can get a good price. I bought a set when they were 95- now I need a set for my wife and a spare set.

It's called rising oil prices...........Most tire dealers experienced 4-6 price increases in 2006.

For the first 25K miles I used the German-made GS-D3's. I purchased the bargain GS-D3's as replacements. There is a different feel, and at first I was disappointed. After a few weeks I got used to them. After 10K miles, I'm not unhappy, but I think the German-made tire is better for my tastes. Honestly, I'd pay the extra $225 for them. Then again, I'd choose the Asian-made GS-D3 over the Kumho's.

Bottom-line: Tires are one of the most important choices you're going to make. Buy the best tires you can possibly afford.

Wasn't it Goodyear that had several factories on strike for the past 3-4 months? I think I heard late last week that they had a new contract on the table and that the union was going to vote on it soon, but I bet it will be a while before there is any excess supply with these tires.

Here's more info on the strike... It basically says that the contract was approved and the union members went back to work on 1/2/07 but that they are weeks away from full production.

I had the same results, the "Sale" F1 GS-D3s were not as good as my first set. I thought it was the speed rating, but this ends the mystery. I was already to switch to a different brand tire.

You guys, are crazy ! At first you were disappointed, it's called break-in new tires never feel the same or work as good until you put a few miles on them..

What occured was Goodyear had an overstock of tires in that size and sold them to Tire Rack and a great price they sent along the savings to the customer.

Quality and the ride is the same! Why would Goodyear risk selling a cheap version of there best tire?

Passat774, I have a MC2 magazine in front of me from Sept/Oct. The TireRack ad has two GY F1 tires in the same 2154517 size. One says XL and is $40 more each than the other. There is a difference.

Out with the old, in with the new! I like the Falken 615's & 452's more than the KDW2's

The XL that is $40 more does anyone know what this means? Does it have anything to due with the AAtrax tread compound? Does it have anything to due with the wet and dry traction rating? Does it have anything to due with the carcas piles that give it the great handling and responsive cornering power?

My goal here is to make better educated tire buyers

I don't except it is a higher load rating so something is different in the construction. Probably would equate to a different feel in the tire others were talking about.
