MCS 16 vs 17 Run Flat vs Non Run Flat

New to the group and searched the Forum and found similar but did not find this specific question answered so forgive me if you all have been over this.

I have 2003 MCS with 17 S-Lites w/ Dunlop SP Sport 9000 and find the ride extremely harsh for New York City and the BQE not to mention I've driven less than 600 miles before I had to replace a tire due to sidewall damage. I love the the car and the ride I would just like to ease off a bit and now it's stiffer than my sisters M3.

My question has a few parts.

1) Will switching to 16" wheels and tires make a significant difference?

2) Will switching to non run flat tires make a difference or will I be in greater danger of damaging a wheel?

3) Will switching to 16" wheels and non run flats make the biggest difference.

4) Will 205/55/16 rub? I have read both yes and no.

Any thoughts from people that have been through this specific drill?

Thanks in advance.

1 Yes - smoother ride

2 Same as above, and less likley to damage a wheel - more compliant sidewalls

3 yes

4 yes when the suspension travels.better on non lowered apps.

thanks Alex,

do you know the diameter size difference between 195/55/16 and 205/55/16?

Also I read somewhere that the RF sidewall helps protect the rim because it is thicker/stiffer and absorbs more of an impact. This is false?
