Falken RT-615 for Drivers' Schools
I am considering the Falken RT-615 as a dedicated drivers' school tire. Can anyone who has used them for DE events provide some feedback? I know they are supposed to be good for autocross but what about 30 minute sessions on a road course?
I am currently running Kumho Victoracers and love them, but they are getting chewed up quickly. Since this is DE, not racing, I'd gladly trade 1 or 2 seconds per lap for a longer-lasting tire. I also like the price of the Falkens!

I have a set of the Falkens that I use for driving schools and I like them. On my last set I got 6 track days (6-20 min sessions ea.) before they were down to the 50% tread depth min. required by the school. Now I only have about 8 track days under my belt. At this point the car is stock JCW. I push pretty hard, but someone with more experience might work the tires harder. I think they handle heat well, but I can't tell you specifics. I don't feel them getting slippery by the end of the day and I don't have a pyrometer so I can't see if they're getting overheated.
So, bottom line is I like them, they work good for me, but I can't offer any "facts" that say they would be the tires you need. I'm sure that more opinions will be posted though. Good luck.

I've been running 205/50/15s on stock holies and like them quite well. The key is to find the correct tire pressure so that they don't get too hot. If they get to hot, they do get a bit greasy.
I set my cold pressures around 32 - 33lbs in order to try and get them around 38lbs hot. This seems to work well for my set up.
Mine are wearing very well ... tons of tread left and they been used for 2 track weekends (sixteen 25 min. sessions) and probably about 2,000 street miles. I do rotate them often, and I'm also running camber plates which helps reduce some wear at the track.
I actually picked up a slightly used set of RA1s for $100, but these falkens have been working so well, I'm just going to totally wear them out before switching.

Thanks for the responses. My biggest concern with the Falkens is that they wouldn't be able to take the heat. It seems that they are primarily an auto cross tire. As long as they don't go away tremendously, I will probably give them a try. This is drivers' school after all; the prize money isn't very good. The price of the Falkens is too good to pass up.

The key is hot pressures ... you may have to start out with pretty low pressures in order to keep them from getting too hot. Good luck!
