Kumho Ecsta MX 215/40/17 opinions?
My friend has Kumho Ecsta MX 275/40R17's on his 98' Mustang. Dry pavement, they seem to handle very well. They seem like they want to slip a little bit on wet pavement, but are still able to catch unlike most tires (they would break and slide). There is not really any road noise that I can hear (I ride in it everyday), so that is nearly eluminated. Overall, the tires are pretty cheap (cost wise) and I believe they handle pretty well. He is hopefully going to run in an autocross with them on Sunday. PM me to remind me and if he ran I'll be sure to post what they performed like.

Car and Driver magazine did a test on 11 ultra high performance tires. The Ecsta MX came in last:

I have never been a fan of the kumhos,
I have the yokohama avs es 100 in 214/45/17 an love them. great dry and even better wet traction. And for the price they are great. check out tires and wheel forum and give alex @ tire rack a shout he will give you several suggestions.

matma92ser: That C&D article also put the BFG KD near the back of the pack, and anyone with a clue knows that tire rocks on the dry. The Continential tire however, which is OEM on their test car, is lackluster at best for all-out dry traction. The wieghting system they used will vary for every consumer; I'd give wet traction and tread wear far less weight for my summer tires.
drtymurphy; It doesn't sound like you've used the Kumho MX. The ES100 isn't in the same dry traction league as the MX, however it's great if you need a more comfortable tire for three-season weather.
